Click to view slideshow. Sunday’s game in Toronto will pit two competitors against one another that have met many times before. The Rogers Centre will be just the latest scene of the classic rivalry between John Beck and Ryan Fitzpatrick. The last time that Beck and Fitzpatrick squared off on the same playing field, both were backup quarterbacks for the Dolphins and Bengals, respectively.  The time before that, may have been in high school football in Pheonix, Ariz.  Or perhaps in community league swim team. “I think it started off with swimming, to be honest,” Fitzpatrick told the media, about the way he met Beck.  ”[Beck]‘s a year older than I am and I have two older brothers that are twins who are a year-and-a-half older than I am, so he was in between us.  We grew up playing sports against each other.” Beck confirmed the story during his own media session today, noting the similarities between their professional paths as well. “Ryan and I actually grew up together,” he said.  ”We’

John Beck getting a feel for job with a start under his belt

John Beck seemed reluctant to answer the question at first, then changed his mind with an almost embarrassed apology. He wasn't ducking; if anything, he was overthinking his response. What did he learn from last week's 33-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers, his first as the Redskins starting quarterback? "I ...

Bills Overpay Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a decent NFL quarterback. At best, he’s an average starter. But don’t tell the Buffalo Bills because they apparently believe that he’s elite. On Friday, the Bills gave Fitzpatrick a contract extension worth nearly $60 million over six years. Yes. $60 million. For Ryan Freakin’ Fitzpatrick. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Buffalo Bills are the...

NFL roundup: Ryan Fitzpatrick says he's Bills' QB of future

If all goes well, Ryan Fitzpatrick says he's potentially a few weeks from reaching a multiyear contract extension that would secure him as the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback.

Carolina Panthers want a more at-home feeling

(By Joseph Person, jperson@charlotteobserver.com) When Redskins quarterback John Beck scrambled into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown in the third quarter of the Panthers' 33-20 win on Sunday, a cheer went up from several burgundy-hued sections of Bank of America Stadium. The reaction did not go unnoticed by those on the home sideline.

Bills must reach deals with stars

The first question that needs to be answered is whether Ryan Fitzpatrick is worth $10 million or more per season. In the real world, it's an easy one: no. He's an NFL quarterback, not a world leader. He hasn't cured cancer. He didn't solve the national oil crisis or prevent global warming. Now that we have things in perspective, let's draw a conclusion within...

Bills, Fitzpatrick agree to deal with reported $24M guaranteed

A person familiar with negotiations has told the Associated Press that Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has agreed to terms of a new contract that secures the Harvard graduate as the team's long-term starter.

Nicknames not on Chan’s mind

Players often give one another nicknames. Ryan Fitzpatrick gave practice squad lineman Mike Jasper the moniker of ‘Eclipse’ because he’s a massive human being. Stevie Johnson has one for head coach Chan Gailey, but nicknames really are not something Buffalo’s head coach concerns himself with. Johnson, when asked to describe Gailey as an offensive play caller, said he...
