The Rap Sheet:
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Osi Umenyiora is considered a pretty easy going guy. He said he never gets into fights on the field — unless Matt Light is involved.
Umenyiora has faced the Patriots twice in the regular season during his career. Sure enough, he and Light went at it both times.
“He wasn’t as bad in the Super Bowl, but this past game that we played (in Week 9), we fought again,” Umenyiora said. “I don’t know what it is that he does, but something that he’s doing really gets under my skin. I’m not that type of guy. He’s probably the only person I’ve ever fought on the football field.”
Those words continued Umenyiora’s pre-Super Bowl tradition of calling out Light. The Giants defensive end did the same thing when he called Light a “dirty player” before they met in Super Bowl XLII.
Umenyiora eventually backed off those comments before the game, vowing to do his talking on the field. Considering the Giants sacked Tom Brady five times in their 17-14 win, Umenyiora would have t

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Super Bowl XLII? Matt Light has never heard of it. That was his message Thursday when he was asked about the team's loss to the Giants four years ago. "I don't even think I was here in 2007," the Patriots left tackle said. "I can't answer that one." The Patriots have answered questions about Super Bowl XLII differently throughout...
It’s true in life that you really do learn something every day. Today I learned that Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora isn’t too fond of Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light.
Supposedly they’ve gotten into fights during previous games in which they’ve played against one another.
Osi was asked why he hates Light so much.
“I don’t know what it is that he does, but it’s...
Jokes they might both get tossed for fighting
FOXBORO, Mass. -- As the Patriots' roster has turned over in recent seasons, left tackle Matt Light has found himself as the third most tenured veteran in the locker room. As such, he's just one of three players who remain from all three of the franchise's Super Bowl championship teams. Light, quarterback Tom Brady and running back Kevin Faulk will also play in their...
Patriots LT Matt Light is doing a nice thing for this Super Bowl. Sure, he may rumble with Giants DL Osi Umenyiora during it, but he’s being nice before it. The veteran is hosting a raffle for two Super Bowl tickets at LightRaffle.org to raise money for his foundation. He talked about that and the Giants. Check out my video:
Osi Umenyiora has gotten into two fights on the football field in his life, he said on Friday. The first one was against Matt Light in the regular-season finale against the Patriots in late 2007. The second one was against ⦠Matt Light in the Nov. 6 game against the Patriots this season.
FOXBORO, Mass. -- Three former Boilermakers are heading home for the Super Bowl. The Patriots have three Purdue alums -- left tackle Matt Light, linebacker Rob Ninkovich and linebacker Niko Koutouvides -- who are excited to play in the Super Bowl less than an hour from where they starred in college ball. Naturally, they'd be happy to play in the Super Bowl if it was on Neptune...
Osi Umenyiora, DE, NYG- It’s easy to sleep on Osi Umenyiora. I think a lot of people have forgotten how dominant of a player Umenyiora can be when he is healthy. A lot of this has to do with the fact that Jason Pierre-Paul has emerged this season as the Giants primary pass rusher. The last time the Patriots met the Giants in the Super Bowl, they lost because Brady had less time...
Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora and Patriots tackle Matt Light have fought twice on a football field. The Super Bowl national media would like to thank Umenyiora for reminding us. “I don’t know what it is that he does, but it’s something that he’s doing that really gets under my skin,” said Umenyiora on Friday…
Yesterday, Patriots LT Matt Light didn’t “remember” the 2007 Super Bowl, saying, “I don’t even think I was here for 2007.”
Well today, G Logan Mankins was asked about his memories from that painful game, specifically how their quick guys attacked the middle of their offensive line in Super Bowl XLII.
“Nah,” Mankins said, giving the stiff-arm. “That was four years...
Osi Umenyiora said he's never been more disrespected -- or more fired up -- as a football player. Heading into Super Bowl XLII against the Patriots in 2008, it was almost as if the Giants weren't even there.
It wasn’t so long ago that Osi Umenyiora was implicitly calling his General Manager a liar. An affidavit signed by Umenyiora as part of the antitrust case against the NFL was leaked to the media in attempt to make the NFL and G.M. Jerry Reese look bad. When the lockout ended, Umenyiora didn’t show up to training…
