ATLANTA (AP) -- Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and the Falcons' Matt Ryan each directed a pair of scoring drives before Cincinnati's reserves held on for a 24-19 preseason victory over Atlanta on Thursday night. In a matchup of teams that lost in the wild-card round of the playoffs last season, Cincinnati (No. 14 in the AP Pro32) had the deeper roster. The second- and third-string players for Atlanta (No. 13) struggled in the second half for the second straight week. Ryan, who completed his first 11 attempts, finished 18 of 21 for 174 yards and one touchdown, a 2-yard screen to reserve fullback Lousaka Polite in the second quarter. Spreading out the offense and connecting with nine different receivers, Ryan completed passes of at least 20 yards to Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones and Michael Palmer. Dalton was 8 of 14 for 125 yards and one TD, a 50-yard pass that star receiver A.J. Green caught while running past cornerback Asante Samuel down the right sideline.

Atlanta Falcons vs Cincinnati Bengals, Fantasy Football Analysis

Falcons QB Matt Ryan had one of the most impressive performances of the NFL preseason Thursday Night. We all know that the NFL preseason doesn’t really matter. At least the final score at the end of the game doesn’t but for fantasy football owners there are plenty of things that can be taken away from these otherwise meaningless contents. Now it is important to remember...

Atlanta Falcons: Biggest Home Game of the Year

The Atlanta Falcons have several intriguing home games this year but none more exciting than their Week 13 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Since quarterback Matt Ryan entered the league and became the starter in 2008, the Falcons have gone a combined 2-6 against their division rivals, with three of those losses happening in Atlanta. This may not seem like a huge deal, but...

Cincinnati Bengals: Biggest Home Game of the Year

In 2011, the Cincinnati Bengals had lady luck on their side. With a rookie quarterback (Andy Dalton) passing to a rookie No. 1 wideout (AJ Green) in a West Coast offense called by first-year coordinator Jay Gruden - the upstart Bengals shocked the league, as their 6-2 record through eight games led the AFC North. Then, in Week 10 of the regular season, the hated Pittsburgh Steelers...

Mostly good for Bengals in Atlanta

Ten facts, opinions, observations and areas of concern for the Bengals coming out of their nationally-televised preseason win over the Falcons Thursday night. 1. Andy Dalton firing deep. A.J. Green catching it. It's Marvin Lewis's job to sweat the details, the injuries, the special teams and the assignments, but it's Dalton-to-Green on the kind of double move that led...

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly By Eric Judd, @ericjuddTSHQ     Cincinnati 24 – Atlanta 19   August 16, 2012   The Good   You want this! Andy Dalton to AJ Green. Boy, Mike Brown and Company really nailed the 2011 draft. Well, at least, their first two picks. That is how you build a franchise. QB? Check. WR? Check. If the Bengals can keep those two together, good things will...

Lions offense seeks improvement against Ravens

In his first game as defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, Dean Pees watched Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan follow the opening kickoff with five straight completions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Not exactly what Pees was looking for from a unit that has exuded excellence for well over a decade. Sure, it was only a preseason game and middle linebacker Ray Lewis...

Bengals hope to continue development in 2012

At this point last season, you would have been hard pressed to find anyone that believed the Bengals would be a respectable football team, much less a playoff contender. Fast forward to today. The Bengals are considered a legitimate threat to unseat the Ravens and the Steelers as the dominant teams in the AFC North, and the Bengals' hopes and dreams for 2012 hinge on a couple...

Cincinnati Bengals at Atlanta Falcons: Player Observations

QUARTERBACKS Cincinnati The loss of Travelle Wharton with a knee injury last week was evident on some plays, as blitz overloads forced Andy Dalton to run right in order to avoid the hit. Dalton’s connection for a 50-yard touchdown to A.J. Green caught Asante Samuel napping, as Dalton hit Green in stride after beating the veteran corner by a good two or three steps. In general...
