A judge dismissed an assault charge against Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga on Thursday after learning the dispute was settled in mediation. He still faces possible punishment from the NFL under its personal conduct policy. Maualuga was charged with misdemeanor assault after an employee at a downtown bar told police that the middle linebacker punched him in the face on Feb. 5. The case was referred to mediation. Maualuga appeared in Hamilton County Municipal Court on Thursday for an update hearing that lasted less than 2 minutes. Judge Heather S. Russell dismissed the case after prosecutors said neither Maualuga nor the bar employee wanted to pursue the matter. ''Thank you judge,'' Maualuga said, then left the courthouse quickly. He could be punished by the NFL for getting in trouble a second time. The league fined him two game checks and made him forfeit a two-week share of his signing bonus in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to drunken driving. Police in northern Kentucky said Maualuga, a second-round pick in 2009, hit a parking meter and two parked cars while driving drunk. Maualuga got a suspended seven-day jail sentence, had his driver's license suspended and was ordered to participate in an alcohol and drug education program to settle the 2010 case. He also had to make financial restitution for damages from the accident. He was the fourth Bengal player charged with a crime since last summer. Running back Cedric Benson was charged with misdemeanor assault last July for an altercation with a former roommate in Texas. He served five days in jail there, and was suspended for one game by the NFL. Benson is currently a free agent. Cornerback Adam ''Pacman'' Jones pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct for a disturbance at a downtown bar last July. He received a year of probation and community service. He became a free agent after the season and signed another deal with the Bengals. Receiver Jerome Simpson served a 15-day jail sentence in northern Kentucky this month after pleading to a drug-related charge for receiving a shipment of marijuana at his home last year. Simpson is an unrestricted free agent and is expected to sign with Minnesota.

Bengals Make Bold Statement In Round 2

Positive or negative, there is sure to be plenty of reaction about the statement made by the Bengals’ war room on Day 2 of the 2012 draft. It is a statement we might expect to hear from a head coach that came up as a Defensive Coordinator: “You are not going to run on us!” In a division featuring Ray Rice — who has gashed the Bengals several times — and now Trent Richardson...

Mohamed Sanu Actually Drafted by Cincinnati Bengals Night After Prank Claiming First Round

Rutgers wide reciever Mohamed Sanu was, in fact, selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft--just not in the round he originally thought he was. Sanu got a phone call from a random number with a New Jersey area code Thursday night from a man saying he was with the Bengals organization. He then went on to tell Sanu that the team had taken him with the 27th overall pick...

Cincinnati Bengals Draft Sanu

With the 83rd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. Sanu, who was the victim of a prank involving the Bengals during the first round, joins fellow Rutgers legend Brian Leonard in Cincinnati.

Double Dip Of Draft Lovin’

The Bengals were one of 5 teams to make two selections in the first round, which I think automatically puts them in the top 5 of the draft so far. (Even if the sports media largely ignores them.) I am inclined to give the first round a “B+” grade. Like most of you, there were guys available that I thought would have made better picks. But they did address clear needs, and they...

Final Mock Draft (17-32)

The Cincinnati Bengals (9-7) select: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame The Bengals biggest need is probably a #2 Wide Receiver. To start the off season it could have been argued it was Guard or Corner, but those needs have been covered up for the most part. I think Michael Floyd is going to fall a [...]
