ALL ABOARD! Next stop Cincinnati!
Here's what I want to hear come April, "With the first pick in the 2009 NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select Javon Ringer, running back from Michigan State University."
Michigan State running back Javon Ringer is the man, and as a Bengals fan, I look forward to him being our top pick. You think I'm kidding? Then you are insane, and coming from a proud Bengals fan, that's saying something.
Cincinnati is 0-6 at this point and they're about to take on the Steelers without quarterback Carson Palmer, which means I'm officially giving up on the season and looking forward to 2009. There are plenty of things that need to be fixed with the Bengals, including our defense, but who wants to draft a defensive tackle when you could draft a playmaker like Ringer?
I hear you saying "Cincinnati's strong suit has been offense." I agree, but at this point, it isn't clicking and we need to make some changes. With Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the team has a core that has proven themselves as top playmakers, but one of the problems over the past couple of seasons has been in the backfield.
Last season, Kenny Watson filled in for the injured Rudi Johnson pretty well and was handed his walking papers. Shocking. The team decided to go with Chris Perry and then picked up Cedric Benson and both have proved themselves worthless. In one game, Ringer amassed more yards than Perry has gained all season. Perry also has hands made of Crisco, fumbling the ball a league-leading five times. Ugh!
