Robert Geathers Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com writes that Cincinnati “would like to strike a deal” with free agent DE Robert Geathers. The Bengals have already franchised Michael Johnson and re-signed Wallace Gilberry to a three-year contract last weekend. Despite having plenty of cap space to work with, there hasn’t been a lot of speculation regarding potential free agent targets, which is a pretty clear indication that their focus remains on retaining their own players. It’s worth noting that Geathers was one of the worst rated 4-3 defense ends in the league last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Andre Smith Hobson mentions that they still have OT Andre Smith among their “biggest priorities” this offseason. Smith is reportedly seeking as much as $9 million annually, which is a staggeringly high figure, considering that deep group of offensive tackles in this year’s free agent class. There was some speculation that the Bengals could franchise Smith, but it makes sense that they would use the designation on Johnson instead and see if Smith’s asking price comes down as the market unfolds. We have him listed as the No. 10 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list. Rey Maualuga The Bengals coaching staff would reportedly like to retain Rey Maualuga despite what was an up and down season last year, according to Hobson. Cincinnati would like to use Maualuga as their SAM linebacker, but a decision is likely to come down to the level of interest in him this week. Hobson believes they could either target a veteran or draft someone. Notes: Cornerbacks Adam Jones and Terrence Newman are also mentioned as offseason priorities.
