Bengals QB Joe Burrow reveals the unusual reason why his wrist injury was unlike anything he dealt with before

Injuries are a part of football, but they've been more prominent in Joe Burrow's career than any Cincinnati Bengals fan would like to admit.

Two knee injuries (one more severe than the other), a dislocated pinky, a calf strain, and most recently a torn ligament in his throwing wrist have clouded an otherwise incredible beginning to Burrow's NFL career.

This wrist injury, which he's still finishing up his recovery from, has been a process unlike any he's had to take on in the past.

We've seen quarterbacks tear ACLs, jam fingers, and strain calves. Tearing a ligament in the throwing wrist? Burrow found himself as a lone wolf QB in that regard, which made the rehab process more of an unknown.

"Yeah, I definitely was kind of flying blind throughout the beginning of that rehab process because I hadn't found any quarterbacks that have had this before," Burrow told media members Tuesday. "The guys that I have talked to have been offensive linemen, defensive lineman, linebackers that didn't have to have that wrist mobility and the little intricacies of the wrist movement like I do."

Every football player uses their wrists, but only one player is using it to throw the ball on a consistent basis. Rebuilding strength in that area to do the specific tasks of being a quarterback likely made Burrow's rehab much more specific.

Fortunately, Burrow the rehab road is one Burrow has traveled down before in Cincinnati. Bengals Director of Rehab Nick and Head Athletic Trainer Matt Summers have experience tailoring recovery programs for the franchise quarterback, and this one appears to have worked just as well after the blind beginning.

"Nick [Cosgray] and Matt [Summers] have really done a good job of making sure that I get that motion back. And our rehab has been been lights out, so I've been excited about that, and I'm excited about where I'm at."

If another quarterback has to go through the same injury, I'm sure he'll give Burrow a ring before anyone else.
