CBS Sports reports that Dolphins WR Davone Bess has been busy this offseason during the NFL lockout – digging ditches.

When somebody asks you how your job is treating you, I’ve always loved the clichéd response of: Well, it beats digging ditches. The answer to my first point is: Dolphins WR Davone Bess, who actually IS digging ditches in Costa Rica while working for Global Volunteers. “I had an epiphany one night. With all I’ve been through on and off the field God has put me in a position to be a difference maker and to change lives,” Bess told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “If I can help someone make a difference and impact someone’s life I want to do that to the best of my ability.” Bess is trying to impact those lives by digging 200 yards of drainage ditches and laying tile for the residents of Canitas, a small town in the north, as they prepare for the rainy season. Just like Reggie Bush, who’s kept busy on Twitter during the offseason, it’s nice to see Bess enjoying his lockout vacation. Except Bess is actually doing something worthwhile with his time and not just, um, relaxing by the pool.
