Every year it seems like Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay spend days arguing over who are the best rookies to draft. Both “experts” make a big board and criticize teams for their draft picks before the rookies ever play a game. Throughout the season we will keep track of how many times each rookie makes this list and see if Kiper and McShay know what they are talking about. However, Kiper and McShay never have a segment where they look back at their advice and see where they were right and wrong… Of course they’re experts! Neither is ever actually graded and by time the NFL season is underway, nobody remembers which athletes were highly recommended by either commentator. QB: Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks: It’s official, the Seahawks are for real. Wilson operated a drumming of one of the NFC’s elite, beating the 49ers 42-13. The rookie out of Wisco was extremely efficient, going 15 for 21 with 171 yards and 4 touchdowns against one of the league’s best defenses. However, it still remains to be seen if Wilson can have this type of performance on the road, as the Seahawks are just 3-5 outside of Seattle. 4x Winner RB: Alfred Morris, Washington Redskins: Morris continues to put up consistent numbers for the Redskins, rushing for 91 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries. Next week the Cowboys will come to town with the NFC East on the line, and Morris will need to have a solid game in order to keep Demarcus Ware from locking in on RGIII. 6x Winner WR: Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville Jaguars: One fact has become glaringly obvious, Blaine Gabbert is the problem. Blackmon has broken out of his shell since Chad Henne has taken the reigns at quarterback (oh god, did I just compliment Chad Henne)… The wide out caught 7 balls for 79 yards and a TD, keeping the Jags competitive with the far superior Pats. If the Jaguars get a real quarterback, Blackmon could become one of the NFL’s best, but with the Tim Tebow rumors swirling, Blackmon may be in some trouble. 4x Winner TE: Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts: Despite not having a spectacular game, Allen brings home the award yet again due to the lack of other rookie tight ends. 12x Winner Def: Dont’a Hightower, New England Patriots: In what was a much closer game than it should have been with the Jaguars, Hightower made big play after big play for the Pats. The two time All-American relived his Bama days, with 6 tackles including one sack, , and one pass deflected. Although these stats may not blow you away, those who watched the game saw the big backer in Chad Henne’s face nearly every snap, something I am sure Henne did not enjoy very much. 1x Winner -Langer
