Wes Welker and Mike Wallace will start for new teams next season. One of them signed with a team that didn’t make the playoffs (the Dolphins) and doesn’t have a top 10 quarterback, while the other signed with a team that had the number one seed in the AFC playoffs (the Broncos) and has a top 5 quarterback. Let’s take a look at which signing was better. Mike Wallace -  The Good: Wallace, 26, is one of the best wide receivers in the game. Over the last four seasons (his only four in the league), Wallace has caught 32 touchdowns and totaled 4,042 reception yards. Wallace is an extremely fast receiver that should help Miami’s offense over the next couple seasons dramatically. The wide receiver signed a 5-year-deal with the Dolphins for $60 million dollars which means that Miami can spend the next five years building their team around him. The Bad: Instead of using $60 million dollars to sign Wallace, the Dolphins could have used that money in many other places. Ryan Tannehill is not a top 10 quarterback which will hurt Wallace in the short term. In order to succeed in the NFL, you need a good quarterback more so than good wide receivers. Just take a look at the last five QBs to win a Super Bowl: Joe Flacco, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger Miami wasted a lot of money on Wallace that will now prevent them from signing or trading for a QB better than Tannehill for a couple years. Grade: B Wes Welker -  The Good: Welker, 31, has been one of the league’s most durable and efficient wide receivers over the last four years. The wide receiver has totaled 26 receiving touchdowns and 5,119 receiving yards over those four seasons. Welker brings leadership and experience to the Broncos and makes its already impressive receiving pair of Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas, much better. Denver also managed to sign Welker to a two-year $12 million dollar deal, which isn’t too bad for a WR with his numbers. The Bad: The veteran is five years older than Wallace, which isn’t good for the Broncos. Welker probably has only two good years left in his tank, but that shouldn’t bother Denver. Even though Welker is older, he does have Peyton Manning throwing the ball to him, which is never a bad thing. Grade: A- In the end, it comes down to the fact that Welker has been more consistent over the last few years and has the better QB on his side. If Wallace went to a team with a top ten QB, he would’ve been the better signing. But sadly, Wallace signed with the Dolphins, while Welker signed with the Broncos.
