New-england-patriots
You’d think it was Peyton Manning and the Colts out there with the season on the line. It wasn’t. It was the 49ers in a late-season slugfest, in a game the Patriots had no business winning but had somehow fought their way back into. So why are people upset that Bill Belichick went for it on 4th-and-1? The 4th-and-1 in the final minutes of the Patriots’ loss to the 49ers on Sunday night was the defining moment of the game, but not because Belichick had his team go for it. What made this play stick out was how it was a perfect microcosm of the entire contest. The Patriots didn’t lose on the 4th-and-1, but the 4th-and-1 certainly showed why they lost. New England came into this game with good players at every position, and the momentum of seven wins and a solid thrashing of the AFC-leading Texans. Tom Brady and the offense came into that 4th-and-1 having scored 28 unanswered points, erasing a four-touchdown deficit. New England came into this game forcing turnovers from other, less men...

Defending a “baffling decision”: Bill Belichick’s 4th and 2 call was the way to go

In hindsight because last night’s 49ers-Patriots game was decided by a single score it’s easy to treat the Patriots’ failed 4th down conversion deep inside their own territory with two and a half minutes remaining as the turning point; the easy choice, however, is not often the right one. Unfortunately Yahoo!’s Jason Cole has opted to take the easy road and tear down this...

Manning: Voice of the Denver airport

For the holiday season, visitors to the Denver International Airport will be greeted over the PA system by the voice of Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

Indy hoping to make most of 2nd chance at playoffs

The Indianapolis Colts don't want to let another chance to wrap up a playoff spot slip away. Indy (9-5) can earn its first playoff berth of the post-Peyton Manning era with a win Sunday at Kansas City or a Steelers loss to Cincinnati. The Colts want to take care of business themselves after a sub-par performance at Houston. The Colts are 8-3 since Bruce Arians took over as...

Denver Broncos, an emerging powerhouse

Yesterday, I watched in awe as the Denver Broncos dismantled the Baltimore Ravens 34-17 in Baltimore. And the game wasn’t as close as the score would indicate. With their ninth straight victory, this one against one of the best AFC teams, the Broncos are becoming an NFL powerhouse. The Broncos dominated the first half building a 10-0 lead. It was only because of the exceptional...

NFL Honors Sandy Hook Victims

There are few times in history that can be called “watershed moments,” moments in time where the world as we know it changes forever and time can only be recalled before and after that event. Pearl Harbor, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Watergate, September 11th; these are just a few of the moments in U.S. history that we will never forget. Friday’s horrific tragedy...

Peyton Manning Will Win MVP Over Tom Brady Because of Sentiment (Video)

With the NFL entering its final two weeks, the MVP race is coming into clear focus. Most of the attention right now is on the ever-present duo of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, with Adrian Peterson running in third place. So which one do you think should take home the hardware? That’s the question that NESN Daily posed to Matt Chatham and Jeff Howe, who debated the issue on opposing...

Decker a different receiver with Manning around

(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By ARNIE STAPLETON AP Pro Football Writer Eric Decker was the first of Peyton Manning's workout buddies, sneaking onto high school football fields in the spring to work on his rhythm and rapport with his new quarterback. The sessions helped Manning regain his arm strength and rediscover his old form after a series of neck operations that sidelined...

Peterson, Manning and Brady lead heated NFL MVP race

This week playoff races usually start to sort themselves out as teams are able to establish themselves late in the season. This season is a little different as this Sunday only made the playoff picture even cloudier. Dallas, Washington, Minnesota, and Seattle all helped their cause while the Giants, Steelers and Bears put themselves in very intriguing positions.   The race for...

Fifteen Broncos in Consideration for Pro Bowl

Denver currently employs an astounding fifteen players that are receiving top five votes: Numbers as of December 13th, 2012 (Courtesy DenverBroncos.com). Broncos’ quarterback (and NFL MVP candidate) Peyton Manning currently leads the...

Beaten by their own offense, Ravens lose to Denver, 34-17...

On a day when a Baltimore defense inundated with injury was able to give Peyton Manning everything he could handle and more, the Ravens offense did not show up like the cavalry they were supposed to be. In fact, Flacco and company gave points away to Denver. It was a disgraceful performance. It wasn't all on Joe Flacco, although Joe admitted after the game the pick-6 he...

Who Says the MVP is Reserved for Quarterbacks?

Peyton Manning. Tom Brady. Aaron Rodgers. All of these quarterbacks have claimed MVP awards since the last running back – LaDainian Tomlinson – took home the honor in 2006. In what is largely considered a passing league, is 2012 the year this streak ends? Through 15 weeks of the season I am inclined to say yes. Because truly no player has been as valuable as Minnesota Vikings’...
