The 2012 draft is over and Bill Belichick walks away after a stellar front office effort. Thursday night, the Patriots stunned the NFL world, moving up twice in the first round and selecting Chandler Jones out of Syracuse, and Don’t’a Hightower from Alabama.

Giving up his 3rd and 4th picks respectively, Belichick chose safety Tavon Wilson from Illinois. The new Belichick ended here and the old hooded master went to work.

He traded the 62nd pick and spun it into two picks (90th and 163rd), trading with Green Bay, giving him the crack of light needed to keep going in the draft.

He took defensive end Jake Bequette out of Arkansas with the 90th pick.  The master wasn’t done yet, as he turned his last pick (or so it seemed), the 163rd, into three. He traded the 163rd pick for three additional picks (197, 224, 235) and in the process, may have landed one of the best values, albeit the most risk.

At 197, the Patriots chose defensive back Nate Ebner out of Ohio State and with the 224th chose Alfonso Dennard. A first round talent, Dennard's off-field issues had him plummeting out of the draft. However, if he cleans up his act, he could be the starting corner come opening kickoff.

The 235th pick went to wide receiver Jeremy Ebert from Northwestern, and finally, Belichick was done.

The trade master had spun his way through the final day, starting with one pick and finishing with three for a team that only had one pick in the third and ended up only missing the fourth round.

Bill Belichick again displayed that he takes what’s given to him and make the most of it.
