When the 2012 NFL season kicks off later this year, one thing is almost for certain- Sean Payton will not be joining the New Orleans Saints.
Despite some public outcry for Payton to be fired, he has been slapped with a worthy suspension of one year meaning he will likely rejoin the team for the 2013 season when most of the controversy blows over. But for now, the Saints must deal with the pressures of adding a stopgap in the hole that Sean Payton leaves at the head coaching position.
This just adds to the list of the disastrous offseason the Saints are currently in the middle of. Earlier in the offseason, the Saints and Drew Brees were unable to work out a contract extension only to later slap Brees with the franchise tag. Brees, who became the new single-season record holder for passing yards, supplanting Dan Marino, was certainly disrespected saying he planned to refuse the tag and challenge the Saints for a long-term contract before the start of training camp.
