PLAYERS: E.J. Manuel
TEAMS: Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are so upset with their 2013 schedule that they decided to complain about it on BuffaloBills.com. Assembling an NFL schedule with 32 teams, bye weeks and at least one prime time appearance for every club is no easy task. The painstaking work in crafting a schedule that works has been well documented. However, since the league instituted the 13-week Thursday night prime time schedule in 2012 there are a handful of teams that have been handed a big disadvantage in terms of preparation time for their next opponent.   Almost every NFL club now appears on the Thursday night schedule in a given season. Those that don’t are on Sunday or Monday night. Coupled with those alternative game dates appears to be a perception that the shortened weeks on the front end for Thursday night participants or the extra rest for players and prep time for coaching staffs for the game that follows will even out. That has not proven to be the case. One of the teams that have been at a decided scheduling disadvantage has been the Buffalo Bills.   Last year Buffalo had four games in a five-week span in which their opponent had extra rest and prep time via a bye week or having played a Thursday night game the week prior. In that span the Bills also had their own bye week, but the benefits were nullified by the fact that their opponent (Houston) also had a bye the same week.   Buffalo went 1-3 in those games in 2012.   This year’s schedule is unfortunately playing out in much the same fashion. In this year’s 2013 NFL slate Buffalo faces five opponents that will come off of extra rest leading up to the week that they face the Bills. I really hate to break it to you, but the reason the Bills went 1-3 is because Chan gailey was their head coach Ryan Fitzpatrick was their quarterback.  When you find a great head coach and franchise quarterback, you won’t have those problems.  Hopefully Doug Marrone and E.J. Manuel are the answered prayers the Bills need. I find it funny that the teams that lose year in and year out and haven’t made the playoffs for a long time always seem to blame their schedule.  Sorry, but it’s not that simple.     Need NFL Tickets? • Why are the Bills complaining about the schedule, it's not like they are a contender. They have a zero chance of making the playoffs so why do they even care about the schedule. Just mark them down for LAST place in the division. Nothing has changed, the Bills will be in the basement again. Same old, same old. The Bills S,U,C,K, !!

Doug Marrone in no rush to name starting quarterback

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone was a guest on WGR 550′s The John Murphy Show this past Thursday night, and with OTAs and mini-camps all wrapped up, topic number one was the quarterback competition between Kevin Kolb, and first round draft pick E.J. Manuel, which, according to Marrone, is a dead heat. Said Marrone (via BuffaloBills.com)… “Yeah, I look at it that way...

Bills see Brad Smith as a wide receiver

The Bills are looking to Brad Smith to play as a wide receiver. The Bills coaching staff have him working exclusively at wide receiver, he’s not been asked to take one rep at quarterback. Smith seems to be happy to have one position to work on exclusively. “I’m tremendously blessed to be able to play this game. For a coach to say, ‘Brad, we need you to play receiver,...

Source: Jairus Byrd In Town

Queen City Sports has learned that Buffalo Bills free agent safety Jairus Byrd is in Buffalo. The reason for his visit is unknown at this time, but, according to the source, he did have paperwork in his hand. One could venture to guess that he is in town for contract discussions. But any and all guess would be just that, a guess. Byrd was designated as Buffalo’s franchise player...

Bills QB Competition is Open, But Not Even

Since the coronation as franchise savior drafting of QB EJ Manuel by the Buffalo Bills, one of the most talked about stories heading into camp has been whether Manuel will start week 1, or if Head Coach Doug Marrone (HCDM, for short) will turn to grizzled vet Kevin Kolb to minimize his own growing pains as a brand new head football coach. And shoot if you thought Buddy Nixon didn’t...

Inside the Buffalo Bills Playbook: Zone Blocking

We’ve talked a little bit about some of the passing concepts that Doug Marrone and Nathaniel Hackett’s offense will utilize. However, both of the coaches have said the Buffalo Bills will be a run first offense, which is consistent with the duo’s time in Syracuse, where they ran more than they threw the ball (also, it’s hard to argue with run first logic when you have CJ Spiller...
