Bills GM has one criticism for QB Josh Allen

There are not a lot of holes in Josh Allen's game, but Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has one criticism that he would like to see his quarterback work on in the future.

Try not to get hit as much.

Along with being sacked 33 times and taking hits in the passing game, Allen was also one of Buffalo's leading rushers, gaining 762 yards on 124 carries. It is the second year in a row he topped the 120-carry mark, and his style of play does not really lend to him sliding much and giving himself up.

He almost seems to enjoy taking the hits and initiating contact on defenders. 

Beane does not really want to see that happening, via the Democrat and Chronicle.

“The only thing I’d get on to him is he’s got too many bruises on him. And we’ve got to work on taking less hits. That’s the only reason I’m going to ever criticize Josh is just take less hits.”

It should be a concern for the Bills because running quarterbacks, and Allen definitely fits that description, can have a tendency to get hurt. 

If there is one player on the Bills' roster that they can not afford to lose for any length of time, it is Allen. He is the engine that makes the whole machine run, and for as good as the Bills' have been the past few years they do not have a ton of elite players on offense beyond him and wide receiver Stefon Diggs. 

If something were to happen to one of them, it would be a big problem for the Bills.

Fortunately for them it has not really been an issue as Allen has not really missed any significant time since he took over the starting job during the 2018 season. But the more hits he takes, especially as he gets older, the greater that risk can become. 

Allen could also stand to cut down on the turnovers and the questionable decisions with the football at times, but avoiding hits is the thing Beane wants him to focus on most.

Beane could help Allen accomplish that by giving him more help on offense, especially when it comes to building out the team's running game outside of Allen.
