The Buffalo Bills hired offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to serve on new head coach Doug Marrone’s staff. Hackett is a familiar name in NFL circles, as his father, Paul Hackett, was a longtime quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in the league. Nathaniel Hackett has built his own impressive resume as an offensive-minded coach. He spent the past three years working for Marrone at Syracuse University, including the past two as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks/tight ends coach. He previously spent four seasons as an offensive quality control coach with the Bills (2008-09) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006-07). A former linebacker for U.C. Davis, Hackett broke into coaching as an assistant at Stanford from 2003-04. Pettine brings an extensive NFL resume to Buffalo, including as defensive coordinator of the division-rival New York Jets for the past four seasons. He oversaw a unit that ranked among the top 10 in the league every year under his watch. He spent seven years with the Baltimore Ravens before coming to the Jets with head coach Rex Ryan. Pettine has also served as the head coach at North Penn, leading the school to 45 wins in five seasons.
