PLAYERS: Kevin KolbE.J. Manuel
TEAMS: Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb has been excused from training camp because of a death in his family. The team made the announcement Monday afternoon, a few hours before the Bills were scheduled to hold a scrimmage. It's unclear whether Kolb would have been able to take part in the scrimmage. He's been listed day to day since hurting his left knee while slipping on a rubber mat during practice Saturday. Kolb signed with Buffalo in free agency in April. The seventh-year player is competing with rookie first-round draft pick EJ Manuel for the starting job. The Bills have a day off Tuesday, and return to practice Wednesday to prepare for their preseason opener at Indianapolis on Sunday.

BuffalOkie Mondays: Jamie Blatnick Eyes Roster Spot

As the Buffalo Bills enter their second week of training camp, the grind of the preseason regimen has already made itself very apparent in Pittsford, NY.  Several injuries, mostly minor, have been among the main storylines surrounding the Bills’ first week of practice. For shoo-in players like Mario Williams and Stevie Johnson, those injuries are mere bumps in the road that need...

Bills' Kevin Kolb slips on mat, injures knee

You can now add Buffalo Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb to the exclusive list of NFL players that have injured themselves in unusual ways.  Kolb joins Chris Hanson (2003 “chopping wood” incident for the Jacksonville Jaguars) Bill Gramatica (2001 inexplicable overly exuberant field goal celebration for the Arizona Cardinals) and Gus Frerotte (1997 head-butting concrete wall touchdown...

Can Buying Madden Provide A Blackout Loophole for Bills Fans?

Owen Good of Kotaku posted an interesting tidbit today: buying the anniversary edition of this year’s Madden is the cheapest way to watch the NFL. Presumably Good means ALL of the NFL games, because you can watch a healthy 3 or 4 games a week over free local airwaves. But for WNY fans of the Buffalo Bills who don’t attend every home game, there is a potential game changing easter...

Buffalo Bills Practice Scrimmage Thoughts

On Monday night, the Bills participated in a practice scrimmage. Thanks to the Bills’ official website, Chris Trapasso and Buffalo Rumblings I felt as if I were live in attendance. Here are a few thoughts on the scrimmage. The Defense is Ahead of the Offense This should come as a surprise to no one. The defense should be ahead of the offense at this point and it showed early in...

Report: Packers To Workout QB Vince Young Monday

According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, the Packers will bring in veteran QB Vince Young for a workout on Monday. Young, 30, has not played in an NFL game since the 2011 season when he was with the Buffalo Bills during their training camp. There has been a lot made of the Packers backup quarterback situation in recent years. Green Bay currently has Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman...

Bills sign TE Provo, cut OT Eckerson

The Buffalo Bills have signed free-agent tight end Nick Provo and released offensive tackle Hutch Eckerson. Provo played under Bills rookie coach Doug Marrone at Syracuse. He signed with Baltimore as an undrafted rookie last year, but was cut by the Ravens before the start of the regular season. The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder participated in a Bills minicamp in April on a tryout basis...

Green Bay to workout Vince Young

Vince Young needs a paycheck, and the Green Bay Packers might be a team willing to give it to him. Facing serious financial issues, Young cannot be picky about the team he gets a job with. Nobody is looking for him to compete for playing time, and the Packers certainly won’t be looking at Young as an option to lead their offense with Aaron Rodgers under center. However, the backups...

Fast Offenses, Figuring Out What Works

The Bills offense looks to be a fast and aggressive offense that looks to challenge defenses with their speed and no huddle looks. Some say the new coaching regime took the notion of a fast-paced offense from the successes of two minute drill offenses. It seems that two minute drill offenses are extremely efficient, but are they really? What about fast, no huddle offenses? The...

Packers sign QB Vince Young to 1-year deal

Vince Young is being given another chance and this time it comes with the Green Bay Packers who have been looking for a backup quarterback since Matt Flynn left last season. Young hasn’t played in the NFL since 2011 when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and labeled the team with the famous “Dream Team” nickname. Obviously the dreams crashed and burned as he appeared in...
