Buffalo Bills tight end Lee Smith will miss the rest of the team's spring minicamps after hurting his lower right leg. Coach Doug Marrone said Smith was hurt in the weight room, but did not reveal the nature of the injury or how it occurred. Marrone expects Smith to be ready for training camp in July. Smith watched practice Wednesday wearing a protective boot. He has been used mostly as a blocker during his two seasons in Buffalo. The Bills have questions at tight end, with starter Scott Chandler coming off left knee surgery. Receiver Stevie Johnson was held out of practice a day after getting his most extensive work since straining his back last month. Johnson said he was given a rest day, and expects to return Thursday.

Buffalo Bills C.J. Spiller ready to breakout

After a disappointing rookie season, Bills running back C.J. Spiller fired back in the 2012-13 season averaging 6.0 yards per carry. The Clemson alumni toted the rock for 1,244 yards and six touchdowns in a timeshare situation with Fred Davis. New Bills head coach Doug Marrone feels that Buffalo has two backs that can get it done. Donterrious Porter trying to follow Fred Jackson’s footsteps

For three days, seven rounds and 256 picks, Donterrious Porter desperately hoped to see his name scroll across the TV screen on draft weekend. But like countless other NFL hopefuls, Porter went undrafted. As football fans, we are conditioned – and rightly so – to celebrate the collegiate players who are blessed with enough talent and ability to be selected in the draft.... Read more

Doug Marrone changing Bills' tailback philosophy

The biggest folly of former Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey was his application of the team's running game. With one of the best backfield duos in the NFL in C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, Gailey used the pair one dimensionally: Spiller for speed and Jackson for power. Even worse, he split reps between the two regardless of whether one was hot or not. And sometimes, he just flat...

Kyle Williams says the Bills have their mission: ‘Stop Tom Brady’

If your team is in the AFC East, the New England Patriots have made life hard for over ten years. The Buffalo Bills are tired of being on the bad side of things and taking aim at the Patriots, more specifically Tom Brady. Defensive lineman Kyle Williams says it will take more than devising a defense and deeming it a perfect fit to stop Brady, he knows from experience, it’s not...

Bills DT Williams eager to put foot issues behind

Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams is finally looking forward to the opportunity of standing on his own two feet pain-free. Noting he already has more flexibility in his right foot after having surgery in February to remove bone spurs, Williams on Tuesday said he fully expects to be cleared for the start of training camp in July. ''As far as the structure standpoint,...

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Two 20-year-old Massachusetts men accused of secretly recording and selling a prank phone call involving two NFL general managers are facing federal wiretapping charges in western New York. Bills seek consistency from interior of defensive line

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Kyle Williams said Tuesday that he "just wants to win." Before that can happen, the defense needs some consistency.Buffalo's defensive front showed signs of promise last season, though it was overshadowed by bouts of dreadful run defense. As the team continues to count on Williams to provide the strong leadership and stability that he...

Bills' cornerback corps 'not really a veteran group'

When 25-year-old Justin Rogers is one of the chaperones of a defensive unit, you know it's young. As Chris Brown of noted Tuesday, the average age of the Bills' secondary is 23. So with Rogers and reserve Crezdon Butler the next-oldest cornerbacks to the 27-year-old Leodis McKelvin, Rogers has found himself pridefully helping along the rookies. "It...

Jairus Byrd’s Contract Situation, Part 3

Now that we have a method to determine salaries for safeties based on their expected production as well as an aging curve to estimate that production, we now must determine the term of the agreement the Bills should offer Jairus Byrd. The NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, as negotiated before the 2011 season, doesn’t explicitly put much restriction on the length of a...

Buffalo Bills Add WR DeMarco Sampson

DeMarco Sampson, a 2011 7th round pick of the Cardinals, was signed by the Buffalo Bills. He joins a young and inexperienced cast of receivers to battle it out in camp to get snaps on the opposite side of the field to Steve Johnson. Sampson made headlines during his rookie year in camp but only caught 3 passes in all of 2011. He didn’t make it onto the field in 2012 and is looking...

Jairus Byrd’s Contract Situation, Part 2

Last time, we examined about how much safeties, namely Jairus Byrd, should make based on their historical production. In this post, I’d like to forecast Byrd’s future play based on his age so we can then apply the polynomial regression determined last time to his expected production in order to find annual salaries Byrd should receive. To get an overview of how safeties...

Bills D-Lineman Kyle Williams states the obvious: Team must adapt to Tom Brady

The Bills have been a model of mediocrity for years now, and have been a punching bag for the Patriots (along with the rest of the division for that mater) for the duration of the Brady-Belichick era. Kyle Williams of the Bills says it's time for the team to focus on stopping Brady  This off-season, they shipped erratic and unreliable Ryan Fitzpatrick out of town, got a...

Similar Situation in Buffalo...?

If you have looked the developing situation in Buffalo this offseason, you should have no hard time finding similarities with the 2012-2013 Seattle Seahawks. The Quarterback battle is more than intriguing this season as the Bills are deep down hoping that at least one of the 3 QB's that they have on their roster will pan out, such as Russell Wilson did in Seattle last season...
