Buffalo Bills receiver David Nelson is scheduled to start running on his own to test his strained right knee for the first time since getting hurt last weekend.
Nelson said he plans to work out on his own Saturday and also during the Bills' day off Sunday. If all goes well, he expects to return to practice Monday.
The Bills have only two full practices scheduled next week before opening their preseason at home Thursday against Washington.
Nelson has been out since July 28, three days into training camp. He was pushed down during a team drill and had defensive end Mario Williams roll up on his right leg.
The third-year player finished second on the Bills with 61 catches for 658 yards last season. He scored five touchdowns.

DE Anderson doesn't mind being Bills 'Other Guy'
Mark Anderson has no problem being regarded as ''the other guy'' among the Buffalo Bills offseason free-agent additions.
It's no knock to be overshadowed by fellow defensive end Mario Williams. At 6-foot-6, 292 pounds, Williams has both the size and the six-year $100 million contract to have captured a majority of the attention in Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills 2012 NFL Season Preview
Offense
It was really a tale of two seasons for the Bills last year. In their first 7 games, they went 5-2, with a win over New England. Their only two losses came by a field goal against eventual playoff teams Cincinnati and the New York Giants (on the road), and their other 4 wins were at Kansas City, vs. Oakland, vs. Philadelphia, and vs. Washington.
They outscored their opponents...
Questions raised about depth of Bills WR group
Injuries and inconsistency have raised lingering questions about how much depth the Buffalo Bills have at receiver 10 days into training camp.
Coach Chan Gailey raised a hint of concern Saturday. Gailey was surprised by how the team's backup receivers failed to step up after regulars Stevie Johnson (groin) and David Nelson (sprained knee) missed practice.

Before reading my blog post I ask that you read Todd Clark’s post first. It’s a great post and my post is kind of a reply to his.
If you’re a Buffalo Bills fan, I don’t have to tell you that we have suffered through far too many “promising” offseasons. In the 2002 offseason the Bills traded their 2003 1st round draft pick to the New England Patriots...
