The path to the NFL is unpredictable, winding, and unique for every player -- no matter the position, no matter the school.

Take, for example, Bjoern Werner. His well-documented path began in Berlin, included a stop in Tallahassee, and ultimately ended in Indianapolis.

The former Seminole-turned-Colts defensive end was made the No. 24 overall pick in last week's Draft. But it likely wouldn't have happened if it weren't for a true American staple: "Madden" video games.

“That is so correct. I knew every NFL star probably when I was 12, 13 or 14," Werner said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "I learned every team, every player in the game and I always created my little All-Star games, All-Star teams. I was just telling a few people when I was 12, 13, 14, I played with Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. They were like the dynamic duo for years. Now I’m going to play with Robert Mathis. He’s going to be my veteran. I can ask questions, I can look up to him. This is just so amazing and so unbelievable.”

Werner's entire family attended the festivities at Radio City Music Hall, where they witnessed a moment they never saw coming -- and will never forget.

“It’s so big for an American family. But then for a German family, they never even thought it was possible," Werner said. "They were really excited. I’ve never seen my whole family crying at the same time. That never happened before. Really happy for me.”

It sounds tacky, but dreams do come true. Sometimes all it takes is a joystick.
