Black Monday has rolled through the New York/New Jersey area, although Jets head coach Rex Ryan appears to have avoided the dreaded day after the regular season. The Jets will retain their head coach into next season, but GM Mike Tannenbaum is not as lucky.
Jets owner Woody Johnson has decided to fire Tannenbaum after serving 15 years in one capacity or another with the team. He thanked him for all of his hard work and dedication, but everyone knew that it was time for him to go.
He can thank the choice to trade for Tim Tebow that led to this move.
“Mike devoted 15 years of service to the Jets, and I want to thank him for his hard work and dedication,” said Johnson in a team release. “Although he helped guide us to two consecutive AFC Championship games, we are not where we want to be, and a new General Manager will be critical to getting this team back on the right track.”
For Ryan, he will get another chance, although 2013 could also be his last unless the team undergoes a drastic...
