One thing is for sure, two previous winners of the Vanderjacked weekly award were not doing it this weekend! David Akers and Greg Zuerlein helped to create one of the great travesties in the NFL…A TIE!
Well, one young kicker has been doing work all year and it’s time to recognize him for his boot action! Blair Walsh, with the help of Adrian Peterson, has led the Vikings to a surprising 6-4 start. On Sunday Walsh was 4-4, including a 48 fg in a 34-24 victory over the stumbling Lions. Walsh has be doing everything right in his rookie campaign. He is a top 5 rookie in the NFC behind the likes of Doug Martin and RGIII. On the season he has only missed on one field goal attempt and is now 23-24. Walsh has been a big boost after being drafted this year in the 6th round out of Georgia. He is one of the reasons that Minnesota is 3-1 in games decided by less that 7 pts.
If the Vikings want to make the playoffs it will be on the legs of Peterson, but by the foot of Walsh. They have a chance to prove their worth with their next 3 games against Chicago and Green Bay (@Chi, @GB, Chi), if they win 2 of those games the Vikes could be sitting pretty for a playoff spot.
