The early Super Bowl odds are beginning to come out of Las Vegas and the Texans are high in the conversation. Betvega.com has them at 12-1, trailing only Green Bay, New England and San Francisco. Denver is also 12-1. One service has set the Texans over-under for victories in 2012 at 10. McNair was asked for his reaction. I think we are a contender, he said. Thats no surprise to me. I guess they got tired of losing money out there for putting our over-under number too low. Theyre getting more realistic. A lot of things have to happen and you have to have some luck along the way. But theres no question were a contender.

Carmichael, Harris to bolster secondary depth
HOUSTON There was no time for rookie coddling, hand holding or intensive individual instruction. Post-lockout haste negated all of that.

Some more notes from the first week of Texans 2012 OTAs.

By now Kevin Walter is used to the talk every offseason: How the Texans absolutely have to upgrade at the wide receiver spot opposite Andre Johnson and how they need to add another deep threat to the offense.

The Texans have had one of the best and most underrated offensive lines in the league over the past few years, propelling Arian Foster and Ben Tate to form the league’s most deadly running back duo, and helping protect Matt Schaub.
