Up until last week's car crash, most people had forgotten about how Bobby Petrino left the Atlanta Falcons unceremoniously following just 13 games with the team back in 2007. The recent revelations that Petrino was having an illicit affair with a 25-year-old assistant caused every Falcons fan (like myself) to have the same reaction... "I'm not suprised, Petrino is a dbag." This is vindication for every Falcons fan who blindly rooted against Arkansas over the past 4 seasons because of the coward who coached the team. Petrino left the Falcons at arguably the worst point in Falcons franchise history after Michael Vick was arrested on his well-publicized dog-fighting charges. Instead of fighting through the turmoil and trying to elevate his players to another level, Petrino left town after posting a pathetic 3-10 record.

The best quotes regarding Petrino's tenure with the Falcons came in 2010 from the Defensive Coordinator under Petrino in 2007, Mike Zimmer. Zimmer lambasted Petrino with incredible quotes that made Petrino sound like the biggest clown on the planet. Here are his quotes:

"He's a gutless (expletive), quote that."

"He came in and said he resigned, he would talk to us all at a later date, walked out of the office and no one has ever talked to him since. Not that anybody wanted to."

"He is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people's lives, a bunch of people's families, kids, because he didn't have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That's the truth."

Probably three of the best quotes I've ever heard and it sums up Petrino's tenure perfectly. Now, after 4 seasons with 0 SEC West titles to show for it, Petrino is out and will probably never get another head coaching job at any program of note (though I'm sure some desperate Sun Belt team will come knocking at some point). I feel for Petrino's family and wish them all the best, but Petrino got exactly what he deserved.

Falcons still counting on tackle Baker

At the NFL meeting, Falcons coach Mike Smith reiterated his position that he made at the NFL Scouting Combine about the team being committed to Sam Baker as the left tackle. The offensive line was hurt significantly by back and elbow injuries to Baker last season. Smith believes the unit will be stronger if Baker, who had back surgery during the season, can return healthy. Will...

HBO's choice for Hard Knocks is the Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons have been offered the starring role in this season's version of Hard Knocks. Team not usually announced until May. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 12, 2012 Being one of our favorite shows on television, we were disappointed when HBO's Hard Knocks became the victim of the NFL's prolonged labor unrest. While most NFL teams are ranking players...

Are the Falcons Interesting Enough for Hard Knocks?

Earlier today, AJC beat writer D Orlando Ledbetter told us that the Falcons have emerged as the leader to be featured on the HBO series "Hard Knocks". He later updated that to say that the Falcons have an offer and are considering doing the show. Matt has already touched a bit on this on the blog but I thought I would add a little to the conversation. I've never seen...

HBO Is Offering ‘Hard Knocks’ To The Falcons

I have confidence that NFL Films can make the “Hard Knocks” series watchable with any of 32 NFL teams, but picking the Falcons, a team that regularly makes the playoffs, loses their first game and still manages to be completely non-descript and boring, isn’t doing themselves any favors. It’s okay, though, Peter King said he knows his fave Belichick disciple GM, Tom Dimitroff...

Falcons Might be Headed to a Premium Channel Near You

The Falcons may be headed for a television channel too expensive for your average blogger, potentially showing up on HBO's Hard Knocks.  If you have not seen the show, you should remedy that situation immediately.  Not only is it very well done, but it has given the world sweet gems like this:     More after the jump, where we may or may not get a goddamn snack. Atlanta Falcons Best Option for HBO Hard Knocks in 2012?

HBO has made an offer to the Atlanta Falcons to star in their latest season of their “Hard Knocks” series, according to multiple reports. No word as to whether or not the Falcons have accepted the offer, as some teams in the past have been hesitant to air their dirty laundry on television, while others have flourished with the opportunity. The last team to appear...

Report: Falcons to be featured on HBO's 'Hard Knocks'

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to be featured in the next installment of HBO's "Hard Knocks," ESPN reported. HBO doesn't traditionally reveal the starring team until May. The New York Jets were thought to be the likely candidate for this year's show, especially with popular quarterback Tim Tebow joining the cast. According to FoxSports.com, coach Rex Ryan...

The Falcons Success (or lack of) Could Be All About Timing

The Falcons are hoping the timing of the Nolan and Koetter hires pay off We've all heard the great argument in the NFL, and other sports..."It's all about winning".  Balderdash!  Colin Cowherd of ESPN argued that it's nowhere near all about winning when it comes to your players, and who is on your team.  His contention is that "it's all about...

Report: HBO Offers Falcons This Season's 'Hard Knocks' Role

Everyone wanted to see the New York Jets featured once again this year on Hard Knocks. Apparently, HBO has different plans. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that HBO has offered the Atlanta Falcons the starring role for the wildly popular series which follows an NFL team throughout its training camp. That doesn't mean that the Falcons will accept, but it does give a pretty substantial...

Report: Atlanta Falcons Offered “Hard Knocks”

The second biggest story this off-season was Peyton Manning, first we had all the news about the neck injuries, then it was the tearful good-bye between Manning and Indianapolis Colts’ Jim Irsay. After that we had the two weeks of trying to figure out where he would sign. He eventually signed with Denver, which added more drama; Singing Manning sent Tim Tebow to the New York...
