As a starting running back in the National Football League, Miami Dolphins' running back Reggie Bush has had a horrible 2012 campaign. Bush has only crossed the 100 yard mark in rushing once this season, and that was against the lowly Raiders' defense. Bush has only managed 82 rushing yards in the last three games, while also coughing up a fumble which in turn resulted in a benching by head coach Joe Philbin.Bush has had an up and down career, posting career highs in rushing last year with Miami, and winning a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints back in 2010. However, between losing his Heisman trophy, never living up to expectations in New Orleans as a first round pick, and this horrible season in Miami, it may be time for Reggie Bush to leave South Beach. The Dolphins drafted Kansas State running back Daniel Thomas in 2011 to be the every down back in Miami, that is before they brought in Bush via free agency. Thomas was then thrust in the back seat, and forced to take the leftover carries that were not force-fed to Bush. Thomas provided the Dolphins with a sense of physicality at the running back position, and complimented Bush nicely; however, Thomas has had more carries in the past two weeks than Bush. After Thomas, in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected the Miami speedster Lamar Miller in the fourth round. Coming out of college, Miller was a sophomore eligible for the draft, and chose to forego his junior and senior season at Miami to come play for the Dolphins. Miller was impressive in the preseason, and has seen carries with the starting offense in Miami, despite being number three on the depth chart.Reggie Bush is a seven year veteran in this league, and he is not getting any younger. Drafting another young running back in this year’s draft such as perhaps Le'Veon Bell out of Michigan State could send Reggie Bush right out of Miami. Bush still has what it takes to be a complimentary back in this league; however, the Dolphins have too much wasted talent sitting on the bench for Bush to still be around.
