Found January 10, 2012 on Sports Curmudgeon:
Perusing my clipboard document where I keep material for these rants, I think I have sufficient material to dedicate an entire rant today to a few NFL players who have been boneheads over the past weeks. I will not dwell on Washington Redskins’ starters, Fred Davis and Trent Williams, who failed three substance abuse tests and found themselves suspended for the final four games of the season – - save for a brief mention of Williams later on. Theirs is merely garden-variety boneheadedness born of youth and a life of entitlement. No, I think there are a few bigger issues to deal with here. Let me start with Sam Hurd and the charges that he was caught in a drug sting trying to order 5 to 10 kilos of coke a week to distribute in the Chicago area along with a thousand pounds of marijuana. I do not want to get into even the slightest debate over “drug laws and drug legalization”; that debate belongs in a different forum. The fact of the matter is that in 2011 – - when th...

How the Redskins can get Robert Griffin III

Griffin could provide for this offense what no QB has been able to in recent Redskins history Luckily for Redskins fans the playoffs can’t affect the teams draft status come April. As many of you know, right now the Redskins sit at pick number six. Usually the sixth pick is regarded as a very nice position to be in, but not when your top prospects at quarterback are likely...

Rob Myers Hits The Slopes, Twitterverse

Up until Week 16, tight end Rob Myers didn’t exist on the Redskins roster.  Up until this weekend, he didn’t exist on Twitter. Now both have come true. Myers is the latest of the Redskins players to join Twitter (@RobMyersTE), a list that includes Graham Gano, Jabar Gaffney and Willie Smith.  Notable players missing on the trendy social network includes Sav Rocca, Roy...

extreme makeover: redskins edition

(photo by Brian Murphy) Once again, the NFL playoffs are in full effect while the Washington Redskins are left on the outside looking in. Because the franchise has just one playoff victory over the last decade, you’d think this would get easier to swallow, but that’s never the case. With losses far outnumbering the wins in Washington, it’s [...]

Joe Gibbs on Dan Snyder and Mike Shanahan

For as long as Joe Gibbs does interviews that include the word “football,” he will be asked about Dan Snyder’s level of involvement in the Redskins’ football operations. It happened again last week, when Gibbs was on ESPN 980 to talk about the playoffs, and Kevin Sheehan eventually asked him about the perception that Snyder is now less involved in personnel decisions than...

Hankerson Rehabs, Hiding In Plain Sight

AP Image One of the enduring features of the Washington Redskins, is that many of the players stay in the area during the offseason and continue to live amongst the fans.  This is especially important for injured players, who benefit from being close to the trainers and team doctors at the team facilities. They can also enjoy some of the finer things that the great Washington metropolitan...

Players Comment On Wildcard Weekend

Part of what makes the NFL America’s Game is the fact that anything could happen.  ’Any given Sunday’ was expanded to a very wild wildcard weekend, as all four home teams unexpectedly won, leaving my playoff bracket dead in the water (1-3). But I digress. The Redskins actually had a rooting interest in each one of the four games this weekend.  Here’s a recap...
