Next the Red Sox are going to replace Big Papi and place Boras himself on the roster. Scott Boras' 7th official client on Boston's 25 man roster is Manny Ramirez after Ramirez fired Greg Genske at the start of spring training. Boras benefits from the fact that Manny's contract with the Red Sox may be terminated after this season, if they refuse to pick up an option that will pay him $20 million in 2009. If that happens, Boras Corp will take its commission based on whatever free agent deal Ramirez signs.
Do not expect any quick developments in reference to the option, however. Theo Epstein has stated that he wants to wait until after next season commences before both parties begin to discuss Ramirez's future with the Red Sox.
Ramirez must have been influenced by what Sheffield recently had to say about Boras in order to make the switch away from Genske.
