Found August 31, 2013 on NFL Trade Rumors:
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports there is a mutual agreement between both GM John Idzik and HC Rex Ryan to name QB Geno Smith the Jets starter. It’s no secret that Idzik has been pulling for the rookie to get the starting job over Mark Sanchez throughout all preseason, with many believing that he had pushed Smith on toRyan. However, Mehta reports that as of now Ryan sees Smith as “the better option if healthy”. Sanchez has apparently burned out all his trust with the Jets hierarchy after disastrous performances this preseason, having  failed to convince anyone he could lift this Jets team. Rex Ryan will be hoping Smith can become that franchise quarterback the Jets sorely need, and at the same time keep his job.     The post Both John Idzik and Rex Ryan Agree To “Move On” From QB Mark Sanchez appeared first on NFL Trade Rumors -.

Rex Ryan talks cuts, competition and injuries

Rex Ryan faces the issues of cuts, competition, and injuries as the regular season fast approaches. The final preseason game gave him enough of a look of the bottom of the roster to make the proper calls on cuts but it doesn’t make it any easier. The Jets still have decisions to make and most of those will come in the next 24 hours.

Jets sign QB Brady Quinn, Sanchez picture gets fuzzier

As Geno Smith appears to be the Week 1 starter, things have just gotten shakier for Mark Sanchez's hopes to start for the Jets this season.  This latest signing Quinn may confirm that the Jets fear Sanchez's injury is more serious than they initially tried to reveal, as a veteran backup will be needed if Smith becomes this season's permanant QB.  To make room...

Mark Sanchez could miss multiple weeks with shoulder bruise

The New York Jets may have no other option but to start rookie Geno Smith under center for Week 1. Mark Sanchez, who was hurt late in the Jets third preseason game, could miss multiple weeks according to ESPN’s Ed Werder on SportsCenter. This situation is ongoing as is the quarterback battle in New York. Since the status of Sanchez is still up in the air so is the starting job...

The Jets’ quarterback competition is far from over, even as the regular season inches closer by the day, but Rex Ryan may finally have his starter for opening day. Raiders, Jets, Redskins will carry four quarterbacks

In the modern NFL it’s rare if a team carries three quarterbacks.  This season the Jets, Raiders and Redskins plan on carrying four.  At least for now that is. The Jets will have Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Matt Simms and Graham Harrell.  I could see Harrell getting released once Sanchez gets healthy.  They probably don’t want Simms backing up Smith in next weeks opener. The...

Matt Simms ads to his father's QB legacy

With New York Jets' quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy hobbled by injuries, second year gunslinger Matt Simms has made a strong case this preseason to be the team's backup quarterback to start the 2013 regular season.
