Brady Quinn recently sat down with Yahoo! NFL columnist Mike Silver for an article to appear in GQ magazine.
Although the interview has not hit the presses yet, snippets were leaked. And none of it is flattering for Quinn. Although I'm sure there is a larger back story, the parts that were leaked are solely about Tim Tebow, because that's what the article is about. If there's a way to sell magazines, I guess it's to have a a teammate talking trash about Tebow.
The even sadder thing than GQ's blatant attempt to sell magazines and site hits is Brady Quinn being duped by the whole charade. When Quinn agreed to the interview, he had already lost.
Quinn is an unrestricted free agent, but the Broncos were hoping to bring him back. And now, you go and say things you shouldn't be saying. For the record, Quinn hasn't taken a snap in two NFL seasons. So what in the world possessed him to actually think his opinion on anything, other than holding a clipboard, would be credible?
If Quinn thought this would be a good way to get his name out there, he's succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. If he thought this would help resurrect his career, he's failed horribly. And it wasn't just his criticism of Tebow's skills or how Tebow invokes his religion. He said about the Broncos late season run, and I quote,
"We've had a lot of, I guess, luck, to put it simply."
Well, the were some other Broncos that took umbrage with that statement. See below. And do you blame them? He took the collective effort of a team, and said a lot of it was luck. Whether you think that or not, you do not thrown your teammates under the bus like that.
And as for taking that out of context, as Quinn has now said, how do you? The only way that's out of context is if the question is about the Broncos' draft picks or finding excellent Chinese takeout.
Congratulations on Quinn for finding a way out of the Tebow circus. Good luck with your next team.
