The man that most people would mistaken as a linebacker if they didn’t know better doesn’t want to leave the New York Giants.  He also probably realizes that a big contract is not waiting out there for him.

Brandon Jacobs can see the writing on the wall.  He knows the Giants aren’t going to let him receive his final year of his deal.  He knows that he will need a new contract to play in the NFL next season, and he wants to stay with the champs and finish is career in Big Blue.

Jacobs was never considered an elite running back, so the demand for him on the FA trail will be very little.  No team will probably offer a better deal than what the Giants will give to him, after they cut him. The team has already informed him that the 260lb dancing bull will have to take a “significant pay cut” to stay with the team.  Jacobs says he would consider a pay cut, just not a huge one.

“I want to stay in New York a whole lot, man, because this is where I started,” Jacobs said in an interview with NBC-4’s Bruce Beck. “It’s a great organization. I got wonderful, great teammates. I won a second Super Bowl here with this organization. “But I’m not willing to sell my soul, you know? It’s a great organization and I want to be a part of it, but if they’re not feeling the same way, then so be it.”

Ya gotta love how athletes overstate their contract situations. Jacob will be making millions next year if he stays in New York. But to the tune of “selling his soul”? At least he doesn’t have to feed his family, like former NBA player Latrell Sprewell once famously uttered.

Jacobs would also go on to say that he feels like he is 25. Unfortunately for him, he looks more like a running back on the backside of hist career, which is exactly the case. He doesn’t run with the same tenacity as he once did when he came into the league, though he definitely has something left in the tank and he can continue to share the load with Ahmad Bradshaw, who the Giants signed to a long term deal just last year.
