We don’t see this getting as much national attention as the late Pat Tillman joining the armed forces shortly after the events of 9/11, but NFL hopeful Brandon O’Brien is foregoing his dream of playing in the NFL by re-enlisting in the Marines following the recent attacks at the Boston Marathon. O’Brien was a longshot for the NFL, as he played at NAIA’s Montana State University-Northern, and is 30-years-old. Nevertheless, he was in the midst of training to fulfill a lifetime dream. But that desire is taking a backseat to his personal patriotism much like Tillman did nearly 12 years ago. According to NFL.com’s Andy Fennelon, the recent attacks moved O’Brien to change his direction in life, again, with his re-enlistment: Ex-Marine and #NFLDraft hopeful Brandon O’Brien re-enlisted.Yesterday’s events says agent @bradberkowitz “left big hole in his heart.” #hero — Dré (@Andy_Fenelon) April 16, 2013 While O’Brien isn’t walking away from fame and fortune, like Tillman did, it doesn’t make his sacrifice any less, nor does it for anyone man or woman who willfully give up the lives like the ones you and I live. Thank you, Brandon for your service.
