Brandon Weeden isn’t your typical NFL rookie. At 28, Weeden is still playing catch up while trying to slow down time. He doesn’t have a three to four year window, for him it’s now or never. Weeden has the daunting task of leading the Cleveland Brown out of the basement and into the promised land. Weeden talked about his transition with ESPN 850 WKNR in Cleveland with the Hooligans.

“It’s not easy. It’s not as easy as it was in college. On a serious note, learning that this is our job now. You get here at 7:00 in the morning and stay till 6:00. You have to treat it like a job and you’re studying non-stop. I’m going to go home and continue to study and do football stuff. You have to prepare that way. Things are so much more complex, obviously the speed is like someone pushes fast forward at times. It’s a lot faster, you have to really process things a lot faster but it’s the next step. You’re in the big leagues. This is what guys are paid to do, this is their livelihood and this is how they feed their families. Everybody is passionate about it and we’re all fighting to get to the top.”

“I feel pretty comfortable. Every week I think I’ve gotten more and more comfortable behind center. I think that just comes with reps. Obviously facing Baltimore last week, they blitzed a lot and did a lot of different things defensively so that was good for me. I thought the offensive line did a good job protecting so we responded well but I’m getting more and more confident. I think I didn’t come in here to put all the pressure on myself and say it was going to be easy week one. That would’ve been crazy and I would’ve been in for a rude awakening. I knew it was going to be challenging and I knew there were going to be other rough games throughout my career, that’s just part of playing professional sports. It’s how you rebound from those and still find a way even though you don’t have your best stuff, find a way to put your team in position to win the game. That’s my job as a quarterback and hopefully I can keep growing as a player and moving forward.”
