BREAKING NEWS: Favre says “No” To Minnesota Vikings

According to a report by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, former Packers and New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre has told Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress that he will not come out of retirement for an eighteenth season in the NFL.  Childress told the newspaper that mental and physical grind of the game was the reason he decided to stay retired.  Favre’s decision was due Thursday, the day Vikings players are supposed to report to camp in Mankato, MN.  This announcement (supposedly) ends Favre’s comeback and revenge attempt, in which he had bicep surgery to try to prepare for the upcoming season while working out with high schoolers in Hattiesburg, MS.  The all-time quarterback in Packers history would have turned 40 on October 10 and was coming off one of the worst stretches of his career to end a season.  Part of Favre’s motivation to come back to football was said to be a grudge he held against Packers GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy whom Favre felt forced him out after a successful 2007 season in favor of the younger Aaron Rodgers.  Favre never outright denied these claims and people close to him said that was indeed his motivation, which worried some Vikings players who felt Favre was there just for himself. Of course, as how everything with Favre has been, time will tell.
