Is is being reported by Houston’s ABC 13 and Sports Radio 610 that the Texans will hire former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips as their new defensive coordinator. There is no indication that he has met with the Texans yet, but he is expected to take the job when he meets with the team on Wednesday. Phillips will replace the outgoing Frank Bush after a season where the Texans defense played almost as bad as you can get.
Phillips has previously coached with the Oilers, Saints, Eagles, Broncos, Bills, Falcons, and Chargers. It is still unknown if the Texans will be required to transition from their current 4-3 defensive scheme to the 3-4 defensive scheme.
Although Phillips has denied the report suggesting that he’d already spoken with the team, he is still widely considered to be the heavy favorite to get the job.
