Fox Sports Southwest:
IRVING New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was born and raised in Dallas, he won a high school state championship at Texas Stadium in 1986 and was once a Cowboys fan. So he admits that Sunday's game at Cowboys Stadium means a little more to him than some other games.
"I remember that Dallas heyday in the 90s with Troy (Aikman) and the guys," Brees said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters at Valley Ranch. "They used to have training camp down at St. Edward's University in Austin. I used to go watch them. So I was a fan of the Cowboys growing up.
"Obviously, they're a big NFC contender now, so it seems like we've played some big games against them over the last seven years. But anytime you go back into that environment playing against that team, that kind of thing, certainly provides a little extra motivation."
Sean Payton, Brees' coach in New Orleans from 2006-2011, is currently residing in North Dallas as he serves a season-long suspension for his involvement in the Saints' alleged bounty scandal. Payton, who will be free to sign with any team in the off-season, has said that he plans to remain with the Saints.
But that hasn't stopped some from speculating that the Cowboys could be interested in Payton if Jason Garrett is fired at the end of the year, a scenario that seems highly unlikely.
Brees said Wednesday that he isn't worried about Payton coaching any team other than the Saints next season.
"I really haven't worried about that," Brees said. "It seems like there's been enough going on here for us to focus on and I've really tried not to think about that. I'm very confident Sean will be back here in New Orleans."
Brees later said: "Honestly, I think everybody's probably making a much bigger deal of this than it needs to be. Does it give me even more motivation that I know Coach Payton is less than 20 miles away, watching the game on TV, as opposed to a couple-hundred miles away? No, I guess it doesn't really make a difference to us. He's always with us, even though we haven't been able to talk and communicate with him."

The Saints signed wide receiver Saalim Hakim Wednesday. He is just roster depth at this point.
Tony Romo has had some outstanding performances over the last seven years as quarterback of the Cowboys.
A few that come to mind include a five-touchdown game against the Buccaneers in 2006, four four-touchdown games in 2007, a 23-of-26 (148.4 QB rating) game last season against the Bills and a 22-of-27 (150.5 QB rating) game against the Eagles earlier this month.
But none of those...
The NFC East has been tight all season and the final two weeks are shaping up to be interesting to say the least. Right now, the Redskins and rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III lead the division with two games to play. As you’ll see in our week 16 playoff picture, it’s conceivable that two teams wind up at 10-6 and into the playoffs but I think when the dust settles the Dallas...
In light of what happened Friday morning in Newtown, Conn., I had a tough time mustering too much indignation over Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent showing up on the sideline of a nationally televised game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was certainly inappropriate that a player accused of intoxication manslaughter related to the death of his teammate and close friend Jerry Brown...
The Cowboys have had a very odd year with regards to their defense. So much so that at times you do just look at the personnel available and concede that to judge these players against a normal grading system is just unfair.
Then, you admit that injuries happen all of the league and there are no sympathy cards arriving in the mailbox. You also see that you are in the middle of...
DALLAS (AP) -- A judge ordered Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent to wear an electronic monitor pending his trial on an intoxication manslaughter charge in the one-car crash that killed a teammate. State District Judge Fred Tinsley also lowered Brent's bond from 500,000 to 100,000 on Tuesday. He ordered Brent not to drink alcohol or drive without a valid driver's license...
(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By SCHUYLER DIXON AP Sports Writer The Dallas Cowboys couldn't trust receiver Dez Bryant to even run the right routes less than two months ago.
Now they're letting him dictate whether he plays with a broken left index finger. He's insisting on waiting until after the season for surgery.
Bryant broke the finger on a catch against Cincinnati...
After missing Wednesday’s practice session, several Dallas
Cowboys’ starters were able to return Thursday at a limited basis, including running
back DeMarco Murray and linebacker Ernie Sims, while wide receiver Dez Bryant
and defensive lineman DeMarcus Ware were also limited yesterday, reports

In addition to the shock and surprise by the head coach at seeing Josh Brent on the sidelines last Sunday- despite it being voted on by his players, now the Dallas Cowboys player charged in the death of a teammate now wears a bracelet that determines his alcohol intake...
Interesting to see if it will work on a 6-4, 320 pounder...

IRVING, Texas Under different circumstances, this could've been an incredibly awkward week for Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett. Had the Cowboys not turned their season around by winning five out of six games, including three straight in December, this week would've been all about exiled Saints head coach Sean Payton.
The former Cowboys offensive coordinator still...

Heading into December at 6-6, after a rough November, traditionally a strong month, it didn’t look like the Cowboys would choke it away in December again, because they didn’t really have anything to choke away. Now at 8-6, controlling their own destiny for a playoff...
The NFL is all about parody.Locked in a 3-way tie for first place in the NFC East at 8-6, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants find themselves coming down the stretch at the most pivotal time of the year once again. But unlike the past few seasons, these two teams are pulling in opposite directions.Since their Super Bowl victory against New England in 2009, the New York Giants...
On the day the Dallas Cowboys paid tribute to the fallen Jerry Brown with a No. 53 decal on the back of helmets and held a moment of silence before the game, Josh Brent was invited to join the team on the sideline Sunday as if he's done nothing wrong.
There's a side of me that just didn't feel right about him being present. There's a side of me that feels this was...
