Brett has hardly had enough time to introduce himself to his team and he's been pronounced the savior! Brett has been named one of five team captains for the Vikings. He will join Ryan Longwell, Kevin Williams, Steve Hutchinson, and E.J. Henderson as 2009 team captains. "I think the guys from within the last three weeks have gotten a pretty good judge about what type of guy I am,what type of player (I am)." -Favre commented after being named a captain. I'm a bit curious about how the Vikings players feel about this move, Adrian Peterson isn't a captain but Brett Favre fresh off the plane IS? I'm not exactly sure how you elect team captains, when I played it was by vote. I assume that Brad Childress is the one to name the team captains and therefor I'll blame this move on him. I fully understand that a quarterback should be the number one leader of the team. That being said, I don't believe you need to have an official announcement for Favre to be named a captain. If I'm a player on the Vikings, I'm a little pissed. Especially if I'm a veteran who's been overlooked. I think the Vikings have a real good team this year, I just hope this decision didn't rub too many Vikings the wrong way. From the sounds of it everyone in Minnesota was very welcoming to Favre, except maybe Tavaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels. The Vikings will open the 2009 regular season today against the Cleveland Browns in what should be a pretty good test for both teams.
