After the Texans lost both Matt’s — Schaub and Leinart — to significant injuries, the Texans need help at quarterback if they want to achieve a playoff berth for the first time in franchise history.

Naturally, when a contending team needs a signal-caller, one name, for whatever reason, immediately comes to mind: Brett Favre.

When some begin to connect the dots, assuming the greybeard could once again be ushered out of retirement, a denial of such speculation usually comes straight from the horse’s mouth.

That’s exactly what happened Sunday night.

Texans general manager Rick Smith said to SI.com’s Peter King that he doesn’t see the team placing a call to Favre, nor does he foresee the 42-year-old suiting up for Houston.

King, a longtime confidant of Favre, was also told by the future Hall of Famer that he’s “not up to it,” adding that he hasn’t thrown a football since November 4 and “no team has called him about playing.”
