Though it remains to be seen which highly-touted quarterback — Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III — will have the better pro career, one guy who knows a thing or two about the position made his preference known.

(And don’t worry, he remains happily retired.)

During a celebrity game in Chicago, Brett Favre told NFL Network’s Deion Sanders that he would take RGIII over Luck, and gave an interesting (yet succinct) explanation as to why.

“Griffin, he’s smaller, but if I was starting a team, I’d probably of went with RG3 just because, if they can’t protect you, you got to protect yourself,” Favre said, via NFL.com.

Favre raises a good point. While Luck is said to be the better prototypical passer, Griffin is absolutely lethal outside the pocket, using his Michael Vick-like ability to keep plays alive and break games wide open.

For all intents and purposes, you really couldn’t go wrong with either, which explains why scouts were torn between the two prior to the draft, where they went first and second-overall, respectively.

  • not being a nfl qb. just because you play like vick does not mean you will be like vick. even if vick is scum, sorry i had to get that in dog lover. the nfl speed and talent is amped up from what he faced. more complex schemes and in some cases talent. i think both will have big problems if they start this year. both teams have average o-lines the true reason for great qb's.
  • Did you forget his football and overall IQ are off the charts? I played in the Nfl and came from a D3 school. You could have saved that comment for your puppys doglover
  • Who cares what Brett Favre thinks. He is the past of the NFL. Leave him out of any discussion of who the future of the NFL is.
  • I bet you played in the NFL Sarge. No need to church your self up to prove your point. I am sure both will be good players in the next level. BTW I am not dog person but Vick sucks, he is undersized, injury prone and not smart enough. Forget dog killer, he is a coach killer Andy Reid your days a numbered.
  • Favre earned his opinion unlike others on this post.
  • Andy Reed's problems, are Andy Reed... This said Michael Vick is a bit stupid when one of the main reasons he gets injured, is because he sort of puts himself in the position to get injured... He could probably avoid some of those injuries, if he'd use his brain. This said, it doesn't mean Griffin would act as dumb...

Now, part of me is sitting here, wonndering how many actually care what Favre's personal opinion on these 2 is. All you'd need is for Payton Manning to go the other way (just for example), Tom Brady to argue a third something, and Aaron Rogers to say a fourth something else, and then we'd see exactly how this sort of comment could go. tbh, the fans (not necessarily the team) are still a little burned up about Favre going to the Vi'queefs (their bitter rival), and outside those 2 teams? Ah well...
  • every time it comes to a black man of talent .you ediots hate to say good things or if someone leaves a good comment .you F--KERS always say some ******** .always play it off like someone is stupit anough not to know thatYOUR RACIAL .. HE WILL PROVE IT LIKE ALWAYS A BLACK MAN WITH TALENT .OFF THE FIELD IS ONE THING ON IS ANOTHER. GET A LIFE STAY OUT OF SOMEONE ELSES. CUBANFAN AND CARL6352 RACIAL WONDER WHY WE CALL IT LIKE IT IS. IT STILL IS TODAY ...
  • I recall watching highlights of Luck running all over the field during his college. I personally would take the Stanford mind, but what do I know?
  • Stanford mind. Typical well known comment that certain players are smarter, therefore, Luck is the better QB .Get over it!!!!!!!!!!! Smarts means that one has the ability to create plays RG3
  • rg3 nor Luck could or ever will be good enough to carry Favres jock strap!
  • How in Gods green earth Favre started 297 consecutive games when the average player doesnt make it past a season without sitting out some time..amazing.. Griffin most likely will be like Vick and knocked out of games. Luck? Running for your life is not the same as running to make plays happen. He will be good, like Manning came to the Colts, has to pay some dues.
  • I agree with you freebird54.
Fun part about the start of the nfl is watching to see if these over paid unproven rookie quarterbacks live up to the hype.
r7apple is right-top five quarterback of all times opinion should count
