Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing was carted off the field on Sunday during his team’s 17-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Now it has been confirmed that the 26-year-old star defender will miss the rest of the season with a broken left leg and a torn LCL. Cushing tore his ACL in the same knee last year and worked hard to come back from that before being out for the 2013 season after just seven games. Cushing was injured when Jamaal Charles went low and hit him with a cut block. It initially looked really ugly and it was obvious that he was hurt badly. He went down in agony and was carted to the locker room after being helped off the field. While it wasn’t pretty, it was not a dirty play, and Cushing and Charles even sent texts back and forth to each other. Charles wished Cushing a speedy recovery and the linebacker acknowledged that the running back was just doing his job. It’s sad for Cushing, who is an impact player when he’s healthy, he was an All-Pro in 2011. But the USC product has only played 12 games in the past two seasons thanks to major injuries to his left leg. This is yet another blow to the Texans, who are suffering through a horrible season. Houston is now 2-5 and headed for a disastrous rest of the year. After winning their first two games, the Texans have now dropped five straight games and have looked awful doing it. Here’s hoping Cushing can get past this injury and get back onto the field soon.
