Brian Johnson's best trait could land him a HC job in 2024

Carolina, Tennesse, or any other team submitting a request for Johnson will not be allowed to conduct an in-person interview with him until after the divisional round of the playoffs.

Who is Brian Johnson?

Johnson, a former college quarterback himself and 2009 Sugar Bowl MVP, has an extensive background in coaching quarterbacks. 

During four seasons with the Utes, Johnson threw for 7,853 yards, 57 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions with a 66.2 percent completion rate. 

After his time at Utah, Johnson took a shot at playing at the pro level before returning to coach the Utes quarterbacks at age 24. 

Two years later, Johnson was promoted to offensive coordinate and quarterbacks coach. He spent two more seasons at Utah before being named Mississippi State's quarterbacks coach in 2014 where he played a role in Dak Prescott's development. 

In 2017, Johnson returned to his home state of Texas where he was Houston's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for one season. He then reunited with former Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen in Florida as the Gators' quarterbacks coach (2018-19) before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2020 where he worked with quarterback and Heisman finalist Kyle Trask. 

In 2021, Johnson made the jump to the NFL with the Eagles under then first-year head coach Nick Sirianni who hired him as their quarterbacks coach. 

As the Eagles' quarterback coach, Johnson is best known for helping Jalen Hurts lead the Eagles to a 14-3 record and a Super Bowl run in 2022. Hurts was also named the NFC Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the MVP award that season. 

After two seasons coaching the Eagles' quarterbacks, he was promoted to offensive coordinator this past year. 

While the Birds have managed to run themselves into the ground following a 10-1 start to the season, they finished No. 7 in points scored on offense and No. 8 in total yards and head into the playoffs for the third straight year.  

What's Next for Brian Johnson?

With Johnson gaining attention from other teams, it appears he could be on his way out of Philadelphia. 

He would offer endless quarterback knowledge wherever he lands, especially to a club in search of their future franchise quarterback. 

Carolina and Tennesee are certainly two teams that could use Johnson's quarterback expertise. 

But so are the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders, who have not submitted requests (yet).
