By now you’ve heard that Brian Kelly will stay the head football coach at the University of Notre Dame. He will not be taking the Philadelphia Eagles gig. Numerous reports say he was offered a job with more money but he turned it down to remain in college football. So why did he interview with them in the first place? Kelly already got an extension and a raise. Was it for further leverage?
Whatever the true intentions, here’s the official statement from the school and Kelly. Here’s the party line:
“This week, I had an incredible opportunity to speak with one of the premier organizations in sports about becoming their head coach,” said Kelly.
“Like every kid who has ever put on a pair of football cleats, I have had thoughts about being a part of the NFL. However, after much reflection and conversation with those closest to me, I have decided to remain at Notre Dame.
