Joseph Addai did not last long as Patriots training camp kicked off Thursday
Plenty to report after day 1 of Patriots training camp. Some early headlines were the absence of 35 year old guard Brian Waters and the cutting of running back Joseph Addai.
When I first heard of Addai being cut on Thursday I was a little upset since I had some hopes the 29 year old veteran could help contribute in the Patriots backfield. Addai has had an injury-plagued career, but when the Patriots signed Addai back in May he seemed as healthy as he had been in years. This was not the case.
After hearing more reports out of the Pats camp, it seems as though Addai had been struggling with his conditioning test, when all of the sudden he quit right in the middle of it.
The Patriots cut him shortly after.
Coach Belicheck had some interesting words on the matter, when in regards to Addai being cut he responded, “It didn’t work out.” Can’t expect much more from The Genius.
The other big headline, the absence of Waters, was not as surprising to me as to some others. Nobody out of Patriots camp is saying much about it, which leads me to believe that they are just allowing the 6 time pro bowler to take a week or two more off. It could be a case where the Patriots know what they can get out of Waters, and do not want to cause any problems with any of the other Patriot veterans not getting this same treatment.
Giving Waters some extra time before reporting to camp should not be a problem, seeing as how the Patriots signed him on September 4th last season, only days before the first game of the regular season, in which he started. Waters went on to have another Pro-Bowl season, and was on the field for more offensive snaps than anyone on the team except Brady.
I can’t see Waters signing a two year deal last season, having one of the best seasons of his career, making it to the Super Bowl, and deciding to call it quits. I think this was planned out and Waters will be at camp at some point
Hopefully this is the case with Waters. We will keep a close eye on him as this seems to be one of the bigger headlines of training camp.

The New England Patriots released veteran running back Joseph Addai, which came to no surprise here at The Pigskin Report. Quite a few writers here informed you over the past couple of months that Addai still may have had the marquee name from his days with the Indianapolis Colts, but he no longer possessed the speed necessary to help the Patriots enough in the backfield.
FOXBORO – Is RB Joseph Addai done? The former Colts standout was cut yesterday before his stint with the Patriots could get started because he reportedly struggled and subsequently quit during the team’s conditioning test.

Hot News for RB Joseph Addai
Running back Joseph Addai has been released by the New England Patriots.
Addai didnt even get a chance to prove his worth in training camp, and Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead remain the top three running backs on New Englands depth chart. The injury-prone Addais fantasy outlook did not look promising even before todays news.
Patriots’ right guard Brian Waters has not reported for Patriots’ Training Camp, though Bill Belichick has said the absence is “excused.” Waters was also “excused” from mandatory minicamp last month. This does nothing to quell the speculation that Waters, heading into his age 35 season, could retire, though a Boston Herald report from about 2 months back said that Waters...
They aren't big moves, the kind of Randy Moss-to-New England blockblusters that make other teams cringe. But they're very much Patriot moves. With New England scooping up veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, nabbing injured tight end Jake Ballard from the New York Giants' waiver ploy, bringing in a stash of role player receivers and cutting former big name running back...
The New England Patriots will open training camp on Thursday down at Gillette stadium, and one key offseason addition will not be in attendance as Bill Belichick's staff opens things up. Joseph Addai, who spent six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before signing with the Patriots in May, was released by the team on Wednesday. The release is a sign that Addai may have failed...
Football season is here! Well, sort of. The Patriots are on the cusp of starting training camp for the 2012 season and in the wake of the team's Super Bowl XLVI loss will be gearing up for another run at a ring. Yet with games a little more than a month away, there's still plenty for Bill Belichick and Co. to sort about before the regular season kicks off. One of the first...
