The Denver Broncos concluded their second session of a four-day offseason minicamp on Wednesday.  Here are some quick hits on today’s events:

Attendance report — For the second consecutive day, kicker Matt Prater was the sole player absent, holding out in hopes of receiving a long-term contract.  The Broncos had offered Prater a one-year tender worth about $2.5 million, but Prater and his agent are hoping to hammer out a five-year deal.

Injury report — Running back Knowshon Moreno (ACL), guard Chris Kuper (ankle) and tight end Julius Thomas (ankle) were all limited or did not participate while recovering from respective injuries.  Moreno participated in seven-on-seven drills and Kuper participated on a light basis while Thomas was inactive.

Manning’s “best day yet” — Quarterback Peyton Manning has his “best practice” of the offseason, according to the local media members.

Rookie Roundup — There’s a good chance that several rookies will have an impact on a week-to-week basis this season in Denver.  Reports indicate that running back Ronnie Hillman (3rd/67th) looks good and could potentially secure the No. 2 RB spot behind starter Willis McGahee.  Linebacker Danny Trevathan (6th/188th) started in the team’s nickel package today and made an impressive play when breaking up a deep pass intended for tight end Jacob Tamme.  Defensive lineman Derek Wolfe (2nd/36th) continues to see time rotating on Denver’s defensive line.

Miscellaneous notes — Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton, a good friend of Manning, was a guest at practice today… Manning acted as a pass rusher during quarterback drills today, simulating game-day pressure for the other three quarterbacks… Safety Rahim Moore started across from Mike Adams at safety today, a day after Quinton Carter got first-team repetitions. The two young safeties are expected to rotate in with the first-team defense throughout the summer as they compete for a starting gig.

Check back tomorrow for more notes and news on Denver’s 2012 minicamp.
