The Denver Broncos can ill-afford an injury to Peyton Manning.  And Peyton Manning surely doesn't want to be sidelined again after missing time due to his surgically repaired neck.  Fortunately, his thumb is doing alright after being struck by the helmet of New Orleans Saints defensive end Martez Wilson. According to a report released by the Associated Press, Manning's thumb is fine, but the team is not happy with Wilson's hit.  It wasn't that Manning suffered a sore thumb on the play, it was that Martez's helmet made contact with Manning's chin - which should be a flag.  Yet, the most important thing for Denver is that Manning was able to play through the injury and appears to be doing alright. In fact, head coach John Fox said Manning's thumb was fine yesterday when asked about it during the team's meeting with reporters. Manning has been getting attention from around the league and may be a legitimate MVP candidate if he can lead the Broncos to the playoffs.  This is Manning's first season in Denver.  He underwent a cervical fusion last year and could not play.  The Colts soon parted ways with Manning to make way for newcomer Andrew Luck. So far this year, Manning has thrown for 2,113 yards and has a 109.0 QBR.  Manning has tossed 17 touchdowns already this season and thrown just four picks.  He is clearly having an MVP-type year.  And his presence alone has made the Broncos a playoff contender.  With a suspect defense, Manning has been able to command the team's offense enough to give Denver a 4-3 record.  They currently sit in first place in AFC West.
