Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays is appealing his one game suspension given by the NFL for his hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, according toAdam Schefter.
Mays was fined $50,000 by the league and given a one game suspension for the hit.
Mays was asked after the game if he expected to be fined for the hit, he said: "Oh yeah. I'm expecting that. But it was not my intention to do that."
Mays smacked Schaub helmet first into his jaw in the third quarter Sunday after the quarterback completed a long pass.
Schaub's helmet came off, and he immediately grabbed his head with both hands after hitting the turf.
"I felt fine," Schaub said after the game Sunday. "I just lost a piece of my ear. I was bleeding and my helmet came off. So, I had to come out for a play, but I was fine."
