Broncos LB D.J Williams Suspended Additional 3 Games -

The Denver Broncos will be without linebacker D.J. Williams for three additional weeks. The NFL on Friday afternoon announced Williams is not allowed to return to the Broncos until Nov. 12, formally adding three games to his previous six-game suspension. In addition to this week’s game at New England and the Oct. 15 game at San Diego, Williams will also be forced to sit out of Denver’s games against New Orleans, Cincinnati and Carolina, as well as remain away from the team during the bye week. The additional punishment is a result of Williams’ conviction on a drunk driving charge in August. His driving while ability impaired (DWAI) conviction was his second drunk driving offense since he joined the Broncos in 2004. Williams was initially suspended six games for a violation of the NFL’s banned substance policy after the league said he provided a “non-human” urine sample in a drug test last year. Williams filed a lawsuit against the NFL to try to get that punishment overturned, but the suit was dismissed by circuit and appeals courts. His appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court has not been addressed. Williams traveled to New York last week to meet with NFL officials about his DWAI conviction. The Broncos are 2-2 in their first four games without Williams, who remains on the “reserve/suspended” list and does not count toward the 53-man roster. He has been replaced by Wesley Woodyard and Keith Brooking, who have split time at the weakside linebacker position.
