In a surprising and unexpected move the Browns have signed veteran WR Bobby Engram, who most recently played for the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
Engram, a former 2nd round pick in the 1996 draft out of Penn State, was selected by the Chicago Bears, and had his best season playing for the Seattle Seahawks back in 2007; when he had over 1100 yards receiving. Having spent a number of years in Seattle, Engram is familiar with new president Mike Holmgren.
During his 14-year career Engram has 650 reception for 7,751 yards and 35 touchdowns. He has also started 113 games during that period too.
This move comes as a bit of shock, because all off-season Holmgren kept insisting that there is enough talent at the WR spot on the roster. Further, and to be 100% completely honest, I forgot that Engram was even in the league any more. However if I had to take a guess, I’d say this signing is more of an insurance policy than anything else – the only player I think has to be worried about losing a job is Chansi Stucky, if Engram even makes the team.
