Fox Sports Ohio:
BEREAPat Shurmur made the announcement official that Brandon Weeden will be the Browns starting quarterback.
Brandon Weeden will start the Detroit game (Friday) and will be (the starter) going forward, Shurmur said after Mondays practice. The No. 2 (quarterback) will be determined as we go forward.
The news came as no surprise to those whove followed practice as Weeden has run almost exclusively with the first unit. Still the same, Weeden was happy the announcement was made official.
Im excited about it, he said. Ive busted my tail for the 10 practices weve had and have had my ups and downs, but I feel Ive come a long way.
Weeden said his approach wont change.
My preparation wont change, he said. We play Friday and my job doesnt change as it is to win games.
Ive been going with the ones and I approach it going with that group as the leader, he said. If I was with the second group, I would lead that group.
Weeden said he feels very comfortable in the offense.
I know whats going on, he said. I joke in the huddle with the guys. The chemistry is good and I have a better feel than I did when camp started.
Weeden said his goal was to be the starter after the Browns drafted him with the 22nd pick of the first round, but he said he took nothing for granted.
You never know, he said. My mindset was to come in and battle and however it panned out, that would all be based on wins and losses. I wanted to be the guy out there.
Weeden had a couple nice completions in practice to Greg Little and Mohamed Massaquoi down the field, while McCoy hit Rod Windsor for a score on the final play of practice.
Shurmur said hes excited to see Weeden in a game and it will be a good test against the Lions defense.
Brandon is an outstanding thrower, Shurmur said. He makes good decisions and hes wired right. Im excited to see him and all our players (in a game).
(The Lions) take pride in rushing the passer, he said. It will be a good test.
Shurmur was asked if his decision is as close to being final, as possible.
Brandons the starter moving forward, Were not looking back.
Seneca Wallace ran with the second team during the 11-on-11 scrimmage at the end of practice, but Shurmur said not to read much into that.
There was no significance to that, he said. I wouldnt read into it. I spoke to all three guys separately. Weve talked very openly and they will continue to compete.
Shurmur was asked who would go in after Weeden plays most likely the first quarter.
Probably Colt will be the second in, Shurmur said.
McCoy said he found out that Weeden was starting just before practice.
It is what it is, he said. Youll continue to get the best from me. I love Cleveland, I love the team and have worked so hard on so many things, but they did name Brandon the starter.McCoy was asked if he would ask to be traded.
Every day I approach practice as a professional and will continue to do, he said. I just learned about it. Well see what happens.
Rubin in Pads: DL Ahtyba Rubin was back in pads for Mondays practice as was TE Evan Moore. LB Kaluka Maiava was in LB Chris Gocongs (Achilles) place.

The Browns talked of competition and it might be coming as Weeden, Colt McCoy and Seneca...
Brandon Weeden was asked what he thought about being named the Browns starting quarterback for this Friday night when the Browns take on the Detroit Lions in their first pre-season game. Brandon Weeden will also be the starter from this point forward, the Browns know when you have a guy that is close to N.F>L. retirement age, you have to get him into the game quickly. Friday night...
A number of designers have taken their shot at redesigning the Cleveland Browns helmets and uniforms to their liking. Featured are a number of designs. Some are interesting options, while some may hit a nerve with fans. Could you imagine Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden wearing something like this? Andre Knott the Browns beat reporter said there is no doubt Colt McCoy understands the Cleveland Offense better than Brandon Weeden and it shows at practice. Weeden who is still making mistakes may not be ready to be the Cleveland Starting quarterback once the season starts according to Knott who is at the Browns training camps. It is understandable McCoy understands the Cleveland...

Browns coach Pat Shurmur put an end to the quarterback competition after practice, naming rookie Brandon Weeden Cleveland's No. 1 quarterback entering the 2012 season. Weeden will become the 11th quarterback in 14 years to start a season opener for the Browns on Sept. 9. Put another way, the last quarterback to start back-to-back openers for the Browns was Charlie Frye in...
Cleveland Browns Linebacker Chris Gocong went down with an injury that he knew was bad, how bad nobody knew until Gocong had the M.R.I.. Chris Gocong will miss the Browns 2012 season with a Ruptured Achilles Tendon . The Browns who are already short at linebacker didn’t need this, but either did Chris Gocong. The Browns were having practice when Gocong went up to make an interception...
Brandon Weeden is officially the Browns' starting
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the Browns have announced that rookie Brandon Weeden will be their starting quarterback heading into the season.
Browns head coach pat Shurmur has indicated that the number two job behind Weeden is up for grabs between both Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace.
Weeden being named the starter is not a surprise at all. Carry on now.
Preseason depth charts don’t carry too much weight at the beginning of the NFL season but there were two notable players at the top of their positions when the rosters were released earlier this week. Sitting atop the Cleveland Browns depth chart at QB is rookie Brandon Weeden and sitting in that same spot for the Miami Dolphins is David Garrard. The Weeden move makes complete...
For some reason Head Coach Pat Shurmur had his mind made up the Cleveland Browns were going to screw over Colt McCoy since they drafted Brandon Weeden in the first round. Oh wait, there is a reason. Shurmur could cover up how bad of a head coach he is if he blames it on Colt McCoy for going 4-12. McCoy never had a real shot at remaining the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback and...
With Brandon Weeden and Matt Flynn being named the starting quarterbacks by the Browns and Seahawks the past couple of days before even a single preseason snap, one has to wonder what the future holds for the previous starters of those two franchises.
For Tarvaris Jackson, it should come as no surprise. He played extremely poor in 2011 and the team signed Matt Flynn to a lucrative...
