BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- The Cleveland Browns have placed wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi on injured reserve and elevated quarterback Thad Lewis from the practice squad to the active roster. Massaquoi started five games this season, possibly his last with Cleveland. His contract expires in March and the former second-round pick (No. 50 overall in 2009) may not be part of the team's future plans. He finished with 17 catches for 245 yards this season. He's made 118 catches for 1,736 yards and seven touchdowns with Cleveland. Massaquoi did not play Sunday in Denver because of a knee injury. Although Browns coach Pat Shurmur has not ruled out starting rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden from this week's game in Pittsburgh with a right shoulder sprain, the club promoted Lewis, who could be Colt McCoy's backup if Weeden sits for the finale.

Browns’ Josh Cribbs attempts to make up for Twitter tirade

Following a profanity-laced tirade aimed at the vocal minority of more-than-likely anonymous “fans” who think it’s acceptable to call professional athletes derogatory names behind the comfort of a keyboard, long-time Cleveland Browns return man and wide receiver Josh Cribbs is trying to make amends, at least to the decent human beings. We battle like gladiators on the field...

Thaddeus Lewis taking first-team reps for Browns

Taddeus Lewis could go from playing with the practice squad to starting in an NFL game in just a week’s time. With shoulder injuries being sustained by both Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy, it was the recently added Lewis who is taking first-team snaps during practice heading into the Browns’ Week 17 tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Phil Dawson, Joe Thomas named to Pro Bowl

Reggie Hodges' push to get Phil Dawson into his first Pro Bowl paid off. Dawson was named to his first Pro Bowl, which will be played on Sunday Jan. 27 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dawson finished second to Sebastian Janikowski in the fan voting, which counted as one third of the total vote. The other two-thirds were made up of votes from players and coaches in the NFL. I was happy that...

Browns' Josh Cribbs apologizes for profane tweet

Josh Cribbs has apologized for his profane tweet following the Cleveland Browns' latest loss. Cribbs said Wednesday that he was mad at himself for muffing a punt, angry that it contributed to a 34-12 setback in Denver, then enraged when he got several derogatory messages. Browns' Richardson, Weeden questionable

Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden may still play in the Cleveland Browns' final game. Coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that Richardson's sprained left ankle and Weeden's sore right shoulder are being evaluated. He did not rule out either playing for the Browns (5-10) against the Steelers (7-8) on Sunday. Both first-round picks were hurt in a 34-12 loss in Denver. Weeden...

Lewis likely to get nod for Browns

Injured Browns quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy are not practicing, making it almost certain that third-stringer Thad Lewis will start the season finale at Pittsburgh. Browns fans are very familiar with ugly season-ending games

So who is the backup for the backup? As Scott told us today, Thad Lewis, recently called up from the practice squad, got the first team reps today in Berea. That’s right. Not Brandon Weeden with a bum shoulder. Not Colt McCoy, also with a bum shoulder. Thaddeus Lewis. Just a reminder, Lewis is a 25-year-old from Duke with a much-heralded arm and some decent athletic ability. He’s...

Trent Richardson Doubtful For Week 17

He left the stadium in a walking boot.Fantasy Spin:Richardson picked a bad time to play his worst game in a month game. His four-game touchdown streak (six TDs) ended in a 68-yard effort. Part of the reason for his low total was the Browns fell way...

“Road Tested” still entertaining, still giving hope

Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner were Photoshopped into the 2012 Cleveland Browns team photo at his direction. Last night’s episode handled the Browns’ losses to the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos. The losing isn’t what’s important...
