With their rookie minicamp in the rear view mirror and workouts with veterans set to begin, Cleveland Browns first-round pick Brandon Weeden is ready to compete with veterans Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the starting quarterback job, Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer reports. "Absolutely, I think we're just going to compete," Weeden said on Sunday. "Nothing will change. I know Colt (is) a good guy. I know Seneca is a good guy. I met Seneca, so I'm looking forward to just being part of the other quarterbacks." Head coach Pat Shurmur has stuck to the company line that Weeden will have to earn the starting job this summer, but the club certainly did not spend a first-round pick on the 28-year-old with the thought that he would have to sit behind McCoy or Wallace. The starting job is likely Weeden's to lose, with the main issue being him to adjusting to playing under center after operating out of the shotgun in Oklahoma State's spread offense. Shurmur liked what he saw from Weeden taking snaps from directly under center this weekend, but Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal noted a few fumbled exchanges. Weeden suggested those will go away once he's working with Pro Bowl center Alex Mack. "I feel really comfortable under center," Weeden said. "Every center is different. We've got (Garth) Gerhart -- he is a lefty. And we've got (Jarrod) Shaw -- he is a righty. That is a little bit different, but it's just a feel thing, a comfort thing. When Mack gets here, and I start to take snaps from him, it's going to be different. It's getting comfortable. But I'll be honest, I like being under center more because you can see what's going on and you get the ball immediately. If I had to pick one of the two, not that I don't like being in the shotgun, but I like being under center."

Browns CB takes girl to her prom

A Twitter follower without a date to prom asked Joe Haden if he'd like to take her, and much to her surprise, he replied back that he'd love to.

Keeping Perspective on Browns Rookie Camp Storylines

I was unable to make it to rookie camp this weekend to see and behold the skills of Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson. In some ways that’s probably a good thing. I learned last year in regular training camp that it is quite a vacuum to look at football. Without some serious perspective it is easy to think the team is far better or far worse than reality. That doesn’t mean it...
SHOCK AND LAW

Rookie chooses law school over NFL

Citing concussions as the reason, undrafted rookie Andrew Sweat passed up a chance to make the Cleveland Browns in order to go back to law school.

Browns conclude first rookie mini-camp

BEREA The Browns concluded their rookie minicamp with one practice Sunday and Pat Shurmur was pleased with what was accomplished. It was a good and productive minicamp, Shurmur said. It was a very good start, but we have a long way to go. Shurmur said it served as an orientation on what will transpire in the coming days and months. Tomorrow, these (rookies) will be in the off...

It’s safe to say that the Cleveland Browns coaching staff is in love with Trent Richardson

We knew that the Cleveland Browns liked Trent Richardson a lot. Heck, they basically traded their draft away to get the man. And though the greatest player to ever put on a Cleveland Browns jersey thinks Richardson is just “ordinary”, the Browns coaching staff couldn’t disagree more. And after what Richardson showed them at last weekend’s rookie mini-camp, the Browns coaching...

Browns Quarterbacks: a Competition or a Side Show

The Cleveland Browns after completing their rookie mini-camp over the weekend will now be throwing the veterans into the mix. Media outlets have quickly began their assault for ratings regarding the Browns with headlines such as "QB competition heats up this week", "Colt McCoy Vs. Brandon Weeden" and several others that would have a WWE promoter green with envy...

Browns DB Joe Haden takes Ohio girl to Prom

Cleveland Browns DB Joe Haden saved the prom dreams of an Ohio girl after her date bailed on her at the last minute. Joyce Grendel asked Haden if he would attend her high school prom with her, a bold step taken via Twitter after her original date backed out in the days before the event. To [...]

Browns make roster moves

The Browns have cut running back Armond Smith and signed linebacker Emmanuel Acho, one of their 11 draft picks. Smith made Cleveland's roster last season as an undrafted free agent. He played in three games and spent 11 weeks on the team's practice squad. Acho, who started 48 career games at Texas, was selected in the sixth round. His signing leaves running back Trent Richardson...

Tonight at 6 Browns Running Back Montario Hardesty CS360 Show

Tonight at 6 we have the Cleveland Browns Running Back Montario Hardesty on the Cleveland Sports 360 Show. Drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft Hardesty has the promises of being one of the best running backs in the NFL. Montario has been hampered by injuries since joining the Cleveland Browns and hasn’t been able to perform to the potential he has. The same type of thing...

Cleveland Browns fans: Dealing with the five stages of grief.

Recently, I have come to the conclusion that as Cleveland Browns fans’, we all need lots of professional help. In working towards a degree in the field of Psychology (counseling) I have been introduced to numerous psychological conditions and processes that we as Browns fans, apparently suffer from. Everything from schizophrenia, and narcissism, to bipolar disorder we appear to...

Browns’ Phil Taylor to have surgery on his torn pectoral

Phil Taylor tore his pectoral muscle last week lifting weights and he’ll have surgery to repair it this week on May 16th. The recovery time is expected to be 4-6 months for the 2011 1st round pick out of Baylor. He’ll almost definitely start the season on the PUP and might not play until November or December or not at all if the Browns are predictably out of the mix by that point...

Browns Say Rookie WR Travis Benjamin Is In The Mix To Start

Rookie Travis Benjamin, the Cleveland Browns' fourth-round draft pick, will be in the mix for a starting wide receiver spot, coach Pat Shurmur told The Plain Dealer on Sunday. "I would say so," Shurmur said. "I saw a lot of good stuff from Travis this weekend and I feel like he'll only continue to get better." Shurmur expects the speedy receiver out of...

Weeden shines at his first Browns mini-camp

BEREA -- Significant judgments from a rookie minicamp can be dangerous. But preliminary thoughts on how a guy throws, catches or runs are possible. And Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden has provided some positive vibes for the team that drafted him and its long-suffering fan base. It does not translate into success with James Harrison or Geno Atkins bearing down on Weedens...

Undrafted Linebacker Chooses Evil Over Injury

One of Peter King’s Tryout Guys, Andrew Sweat, an undrafted linebacker from Ohio State, said that rather than report to camp with the Browns and risk possibly dealing with a lifetime of lingering concussion issues, Sweat instead is going to law school. More troubling fallout from the Junior Seau suicide or is it simply the best way to dodge having to play for the Browns ever?...

Panthers Claim RB Armond Smith Off Waivers

The Carolina Panthers have claimed second-year running back Armond Smith off waivers from the Cleveland Browns. Smith, who had three carries for 2 yards in three games as a rookie with the Browns, is expected to compete with Josh Vaughan and three undrafted free agents – Tauren Poole, Princeton McCarty and Lyndon Rowells – for the fourth running back spot. To make room for Smith...
